The Russian GM challenges his opponent with this interesting move.

And in response, Masoud, with his sharp tactical style, sacrifices a piece.

16.Qd4!
A crucial moment for the evaluation of this position. If Black succeeds in bringing his knight on a6 into play via c5 he will have a good game. As a result, White tries to stop it. It is an important aspect of modern chess strategy to isolate one of your opponent's pieces, which practically leaves them a piece down.
16...Bf5!
White has restricted Black's knight on a6 and Black, in return, restricts White's knight on e1.

This unusual move was the reason I tried this variation, to attack the c2-pawn with my queen on h7 and my bishop on a4 (Gulko).
14.Bf4!?
Stronger than 14.Bh3 Qh7 15.Ra2 and it will be difficult for White to return the a2-rook to the game. Shirov plans to protect the c2-pawn with the rook on c1 and then bring his knight to e3, thereby releasing his rook for active duty.

She became the Ukrainian Girls' (under 20) champion at just 15 years. Many of her chess skills have been self-taught, although in 2000–2002, she studied chess in the Kharkiv sports school of Olympic reserve. During this period, her coach was International Master Artiom Tsepotan. Afterwards she received more coaching at a specialist facility in Kramatorsk.
🔰Tournament successes at Kiev in 2001 and Odessa in 2003, earned her the title Woman Grandmaster (WGM), awarded in 2003. Her performance at the 2006 Women's Chess Olympiad and subsequent results in Pardubice and Abu Dhabi in the same year then qualified her for the International Master (IM) title, awarded in January 2007.
🔰In 2016, she won the European Women's Championship in Mamaia, edging out on tie-break score Sabrina Vega, having both players scored 8.5/11 points.
