To accompany the above report from today's UKC News, this is the magnificent dollop of feathery propaganda offered up by the BBC Farming Today team.

Bird Flu: a most discerning "virus"

What you need to believe (at the moment):

👇

It can travel from a wild bird to a domesticated bird, and from a domesticated bird to a wild bird.

It can pass between fellow wild birds and fellow domesticated birds.

It can leap from a domesticated bird to a human being, and it has even been on its holidays to take hold on elephant seals in the South Atlantic.

But, try to convince it to wander from one human to another, and you're out of luck....for now!

Travis Aaroe on some of the differences, either side of the Atlantic:

"Trumpism is an internally-consistent platform of domestic laissez-faire, tariffs, border control, and opportunism on the world stage. As others have said this is a variation on “McKinleyism”, or — in its more exalted moments, especially in its plans for a strengthened Presidency — Hamiltonianism.

Time and again the anti-populists have been invited to propose any material alternative to this, time and again they have declined to do so. They couldn’t, because they never even bothered to work one out.

Trump’s allies had twenty executive orders drawn up and ready to go on his first day in office; Keir Starmer arrived in Downing Street with “no plan”, has spent much of his premiership on trips abroad, and makes more lavish use of executive time than his American counterpart ever did."

Luckily, hardly anyone reads The Times these days.

However, here they are, doing Blair's bidding. Whilst reading this, it is worth bearing in mind that Blair himself has absolutely no idea about the technology which is required for all of this nonsense.

Far from being “an instrument of government control” he sees digital ID as a tool that “empowers the individual — it allows you to simplify your transactions with the government”. Some cabinet ministers are nervous about championing a compulsory scheme, but Blair says Starmer should relish a battle that would give his administration definition. “It brings it home to people and I think it’s a political debate the government will win."

And for those that do not wish to transact with the government?

Why do people keep posting this sort of guff?

To understand exactly how unsafe the conviction of Lucy Letby really is, do listen to the supremely arrogant Dr Dewi Evans, speaking today.

This is his response to the verdict by a panel of 14 neonatologists (NB Evans is a paediatrician, and not a neonatologist).

Even if we leap the enormous hurdle of wondering why he was ever involved in the case, the question remains: why on earth did his involvement extend anywhere beyond an assessment of the babies who had died? The moment he was allowed to look at so-called suspects, all objectivity was lost.

Nope, it wasn't just a bad dream and, nope, this isn't a spoof account.

If you can keep this up for five straight years, I suppose it really would be possible to never--even once--consider the effect of a novel and untrialled pharmaceutical product.

The proposed reform, referred to by David Davis, was drawn up by the Law Commission in 2011 and binned by the Ministry of Justice in 2013. It has been dead in the water since.

The identification of the problem, as shown below, demonstrates exactly the vulnerabilities in the exceedingly unsafe conviction of Lucy Letby, as a direct result of the intervention by the "expert", Dr Dewi Evans. This is not being posted with any suggestion that juries should be done away with. The whole point of this is that the presentation of evidence and the cross-examination of the "expert" should be conducted in such a way that is is understood, and that it is understood to be comprehensive:

The problem

In a criminal trial, a jury or magistrates’ court is required to determine disputed factual issues.

Experts in a relevant field are often called as witnesses to help the fact-finding body understand and interpret evidence with which that body is unfamiliar.

The current judicial approach to the admissibility of expert evidence in England and Wales is one of laissez-faire.

Too much expert opinion evidence is admitted without adequate scrutiny because no clear test is being applied to determine whether the evidence is sufficiently reliable to be admitted.

This problem is exacerbated in two ways:

First, because expert evidence (particularly scientific evidence) will often be technical and complex, jurors will understandably lack the experience to be able to assess the reliability of such evidence.

There is a danger that they may simply defer to the opinion of the specialist who has been called to provide expert evidence.

Secondly, in the absence of a clear legal test to ensure the reliability of expert evidence, advocates do not always cross-examine experts effectively to reveal potential flaws in the experts’ methodology, data and reasoning.

Juries may therefore be reaching conclusions on the basis of unreliable evidence. This conclusion is confirmed by a number of miscarriages of justice in recent years.

What on earth is going on at Bush House? Has Bowen's brain been hacked?

How very tricky for a BBC editor to decide which particular bias Trump trumps.

"For Palestinians, the conflict with Israel is driven by dispossession and the memory of what they call al-Nakba, "the catastrophe". That was the exodus of Palestinians as Israel won its war for independence in 1948.

More than 700,000 Palestinians either fled or were forced from their homes by Israeli forces. All but a handful were never allowed back and Israel passed laws it still uses to confiscate their property.

Now the fear will be that it is happening again.

Many Palestinians already believed Israel was using the war against Hamas to destroy Gaza and expel the population.

It is part of their accusation that Israel is committing genocide – and now they might believe Donald Trump is adding his weight to Israel's plans."
