Hey everyone!

Welcome to the new #TECHBRIEF segment about UTASKS’ MIGRATION TO KUBERNETES, brought to you by our DevOps expert Kostya.

HOW IT STARTED:
When we first launched UTasks, our priority was simplicity and efficiency. We built our infrastructure on virtual machines, running the application in Docker and deploying it with Ansible and Docker Compose.

This setup worked smoothly, but scalability was a challenge—sudden traffic spikes meant delays, and planned maintenance required shutting down entire machines, taking a significant portion of our servers offline.

As UTasks gained traction, waves of new users arrived. Continuous improvements and word-of-mouth did their job, and suddenly, reliability under high loads became a top priority.

HOW IT EVOLVED:
To address these challenges, I proposed moving to Managed Kubernetes on Spot instances—a flexible and cost-effective solution where virtual machines can be terminated with notice, ensuring optimal resource allocation.

We prepped Kubernetes, fine-tuned UTasks, and when the time was right, we seamlessly switched traffic to the new setup.

That’s how real improvements happen—no downtime, no unnecessary disruptions—just smart execution and strategic thinking.

WHERE WE ARE TODAY:
The new architecture is more complex, requiring Kubernetes expertise, but the payoff is huge. We now leverage cutting-edge solutions to maximize reliability, security, and fault tolerance, making UTasks more resilient than ever.
