Pumped Storage Projects (PSPs)
Powering India’s Renewable Energy Transition

💧 PSPs store surplus electricity by pumping water to an upper reservoir. They release the stored water through turbines when electricity demand rises.
⚡ As solar and wind generation varies with weather and demand, pump storage helps balance electricity supply and demand.
📈 7.43 GW operational across 10 projects; 15.87 GW across 11 projects under construction or implementation across the country.
🎯 The Central Electricity Authority projects 26.69 GW of PSP capacity by 2031–32
🇮🇳 Expanding pumped storage will help India integrate more renewable energy, strengthen grid reliability, and advance towards a cleaner energy future.

💧 पंप स्टोरेज परियोजनाएँ अतिरिक्त बिजली का उपयोग करके पानी को ऊपरी जलाशय में पहुँचाती हैं। बिजली की माँग बढ़ने पर, इस पानी से टरबाइन चलाकर बिजली उत्पन्न की जाती है।
⚡️ सौर और पवन ऊर्जा का उत्पादन मौसम और समय के अनुसार बदलता रहता है। पंप स्टोरेज परियोजनाएँ बिजली की आपूर्ति और माँग के बीच संतुलन बनाने में मदद करती हैं।
📈 परिचालन क्षमता: 10 परियोजनाओं में 7.43 गीगावाट। इसके अतिरिक्त, देशभर में 11 परियोजनाओं की 15.87 गीगावाट क्षमता निर्माण या कार्यान्वयन के विभिन्न चरणों में है।
🎯 केंद्रीय विद्युत प्राधिकरण के अनुसार, वर्ष 2031–32 तक 26.69 गीगावाट पंप स्टोरेज क्षमता की आवश्यकता का अनुमान है।
🇮🇳 पंप स्टोरेज क्षमता का विस्तार भारत में नवीकरणीय ऊर्जा के बेहतर एकीकरण, विद्युत ग्रिड की विश्वसनीयता और स्वच्छ ऊर्जा भविष्य को बढ़ावा देगा।
