👆The Panchayati Raj system in India is a decentralized form of governance that empowers rural communities. The system consists of three tiers: Gram Panchayat, Block Panchayat (intermediate level), and Zila Parishad.

▫️The system was first proposed by the Balwant Rai Committee in 1957, which recommended a three-tier structure.
▫️The Ashok Mehta Committee proposed Mandal Panchayat in 1977.
▫️The Hanumantha Committee suggested measures to strengthen the system in 1983.
▫️The LM Singhvi Committee suggested giving constitutional status to local bodies in 1986.
▫️The PK Thungan Committee recommended periodic elections and strengthening local bodies through constitutional status in 1989.
