📱 NEW ICONS 📱

Reviewers have noticed some new icons on the Wayfarer Contributions page which make it easier to differentiate the different contributions at a glance.

📕- The book icon with a T is used for Title Edits
📑- The document icon is used for Description Edits
➕ - The plus icon is used for Wayspot Submissions
🏙️ - The image icon is used for new Wayspot Photos
📍- The map pin image is used for Location Edits

Whilst not strictly Wayfarer related we wanted to share that the Niantic Friends list which was capped at 400 and shared between all the Niantic games has increased to 450.

✍️ WITHDRAW ✍️

As well as being able to see the icons on Wayfarer for the type of Contributions you can now Withdraw Edits.

This is handy if you have a long standing edit, where the title or description has already been changed.

Due to some technical issues found, Niantic have rolled back being able to withdraw edits.

📱 SCANNING 👁️

Whilst not part of Wayfarer, many players will scan Wayspots from their games for some in game benefits.

Some users have been unable to scan in Ingress, but updates are being made.

📉 RATING DROP 📉

Has your Wayfarer rating suddenly dropped even though you’ve been reviewing in line with the criteria? The team have identified an issue which has been ongoing since April 2024, and are now working on a solution which will include restoring Ratings.

📈 RATINGS INCIDENT UPDATE 📈

NianticThibs shared an update regarding the Ratings Incident (see previous post on June 21st).

We have completed the two steps of the incident remediation:

Fixing the root cause The error which was impacting the rating algorithm has been fixed and guardrails have been put in place to prevent similar situation to happen in the future.

Restoring ratings Users whose Wayfinder ratings were negatively affected by the incident should have seen their ratings restored and increased (if applicable) to what it should have been had the incident not occurred.

We are currently working on the agreements compensation, but we do not yet have an ETA to share. Thank you for your continued patience.

🟢 ABUSE MANAGEMENT 🔴

Recently, Wayfarers have posted on the forums about mass removals (just on Pokémon GO) in Spain, Poland & Australia.

NianticAaron has clarified that this is intended and part of “…our abuse management process.” and that any Wayspots that are eligible to reappear on the Pokémon GO map will do so a few days after their review.

So don’t worry if you see things vanish on your map. Please also let us know if you see this happen in Ingress!

You can do so via the Wayfarer Help Chat (tap orange chat box) or the relevant game forms for Ingress, Pikmin Bloom and Pokémon GO. You can also report in-game via Ingress & Pokémon GO

…move a Wayspot more than 10m
You can do so via the Wayfarer Help Chat (tap orange chat box). Anything under 10m can be submitted in game. Please note that moving a Wayspot to benefit one game (such as moving something to appear in Pokémon GO, when the current location is fine) is considered location abuse by Niantic.

💀 EXPIRED 💀

The Niantic Wayfarer app, which is meant for use by developers, but some Wayfarers use to see the Lightship map, has expired on TestFlight on iOS.

Android users are not affected at present.

This has happened previously and the app has been re-instated on TestFlight but be aware it was noted that the Wayfarer app would eventually be demised.
