🇨🇳 New Chinese exercises near Taiwan
On Sunday, China held maritime and air combat exercises near Taiwan. The exercise involved four Chinese warships and 57 military aircraft, 28 of which crossed the median line between the mainland and Taiwan.
The official goal of the exercises is to test the combat capabilities to counter “the provocative actions of external forces and supporters of separatism. This was stated by the press secretary of the PLA Eastern Theater Command.
Less than a month has passed since the December exercises, and now the PRC army has conducted new ones. Why? I think there may be several reasons:
On Monday, a delegation of German officials arrived in Taiwan for a four-day visit, during which they are scheduled to meet with President Tsai Ing-wen.
The exercise follows recent US military action near Taiwan. Once again, a signal is being sent to Washington that China will not tolerate this.
China is creating a "new normal". By moving ever closer to the island and crossing the median line more and more often, China may want to ease the Taiwanese's vigilance.⬇️

China conducted combat exercises in waters and airspace around Taiwan on Jan 8, according to the country's military, with the self-ruled democratic island saying the following day that four Chinese warships and 57 military aircraft were detected.
