Google is preparing to let you run Linux apps on Android, just like Chrome OS

Google is developing a Linux Terminal app for Android, allowing Debian to run in a virtual machine (VM) through the Android Virtualization Framework. Initially requiring manual setup, recent work aims to streamline this into a one-click solution, with options to manage configurations directly within the app. Currently accessible under the developer options as “ferrochrome-dev-option,” the app is expected to simplify installation and usage. Patches indicate upcoming features such as disk resizing, port forwarding, and partition recovery, with testing done on Pixel devices, suggesting availability on Android phones and tablets as well as Chromebooks. This would allow developers to use Linux-based tools, potentially expanding Android's capabilities as a desktop platform. Full rollout could coincide with the Android 16 release.
