2/7 - At 3:02 AM UTC on July 15, 2010, a user named mizerydearia opened a thread on Bitcointalk with a simple question: shouldn't Bitcoin be submitted to the Unicode Consortium for its own currency symbol?

3/7 - There was a catch. The obvious symbol, ฿, was already taken. It belongs to the Thai baht, encoded as U+0E3F. Bitcoin couldn't borrow it. If Bitcoin wanted a character of its own, it would need a genuinely new one.
