Brazil's authoritarian censorship judge, Alexandre de Moraes, is explicitly threatening to ban the use of X in the entire country unless it makes available representatives physically in the country (whom he threatened to arrest) and censors more in compliance with his orders.

On one hand, a subpoena issued via social media has no legal validity whatsoever. The subpoena is null. On the other hand, our civil code requires that a foreign company have a legal representative in the country.

If they suspend [the platform] based on this subpoena, the order is illegal. However, if X does not appoint a representative at some point, it will end up legitimizing this type of decision. Since the standoff is uncertain, there is a real possibility that X will be suspended in the country. Surreal.

Art. 1,138: The foreign company authorized to operate is required to have a permanent representative in Brazil, with the power to resolve any issues and receive legal summons on behalf of the company.
