But yesterday, in a single-judge decision with no constitutional basis, Justice Gilmar Mendes decided to rewrite the law, restrict the rights of the people, and invade the Senate’s authority.

The Senate itself, which is responsible for judging the justices, has spoken in favor of the right and legitimacy of citizens. In the face of the advance of judicial activism, I will file a PEC to expressly restore citizen legitimacy, guarantee the Senate’s autonomy, and prevent judicial interference in impeachment proceedings.

In a Republic, no branch stands above the Constitution, not even those who are supposed to safeguard it.

When it was us defending our constitutional prerogatives, they said we wanted ‘protection.’ Now we see who really wants absolute control, supreme power, and no consequence for their crimes. And worse: no one even has the means to stop them. We legislate here within what is possible, but we know that control is already in place.

And I’ll say more: if we win the presidency and appoint an Attorney General, they’ll change the law. That’s how they operate, they don’t care about anything, only power matters.”
