🇧🇷⚖️👨‍⚖❌🇺🇸 — Supreme Federal Court (STF) Justice Alexandre de Moraes criticized the application of the Magnitsky Act against his wife, Viviane Barci, by the United States government

💬 According to Moraes, the U.S. decision “not only contrasts with the history of the United States, of respect for law and fundamental rights, but also violates International Law, Brazil’s sovereignty, and the independence of the Judiciary.”

❗️ The justice also stated that the independence of the Judiciary and the defense of national sovereignty “are part of the republican universe of Brazilian judges, who will not accept coercion or obstruction in the exercise of their constitutional mission, conferred sovereignly by the Brazilian people.”

📝 “Brazilian institutions are strong and solid,” Moraes wrote in a statement. “The path is respect for the Constitution, with no constitutional possibility of impunity, omission, or cowardly appeasement.”

➡️ Moraes concluded by saying that, as a member of the STF, he will continue to fulfill his judicial role with “independence and impartiality.”
