🇧🇷🏛 💥🤡 — ⚠️ In a historic and swift vote, the Senate plenary confirmed the decision of the Chamber of Deputies to overturn President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s (PT) decree that raised the Tax on Financial Transactions (IOF). The vote took place symbolically, without a formal tally of individual votes.

❗️ This is the first time in almost 26 years that a presidential decree has been revoked exclusively by direct and unanimous vote in the entire National Congress.

🗳 The measure was reviewed following the approval of the Legislative Decree Proposal (PDL) in the Chamber of Deputies, with 383 votes in favor of suspending the decree and 98 against. The measure will now be promulgated. This decision highlights increasing tensions between the Workers' Party administration and the Legislature, stemming from the government's repeated attempts to raise taxes.

‼️ The defeat adds further pressure on the Palácio do Planalto during the final weeks of legislative activity before the recess — a period marked by June festivities, remote sessions, and a flood of requests for parliamentary inquiries (CPIs) that are already stretching Congress's capacity.
