Coldcard issue affecting mk3 version 4.0.1 and later - act now to check if you’re at risk

Coinkite, maker of coldcard, has published a security advisory affecting some coldcard devices and firmware, especially if using no/simple passphrase and no/low dice rolls. Ongoing analysis by multiple teams and individuals across industry seems to indicate that the problems span more than just Mk3 cards.

Coldcard firmware upgrade is out, please upgrade to the latest. Note that they are *not* releasing Mk3 updates at this time, and instead suggesting to use the device with a strong passphrase.

"Mk3 users must regenerate any seeds made on version 4.0.1 or later as their entropy is critically low at just ~40 bits. We are not planning to update Mk3 firmware at this time, so please use newer hardware or add a BIP-39 passphrase as a stopgap."
