Isso foi uma prova de trabalho, cinco anos antes do Hashcash.
A contribuição de Back: Em 1997, ele criou o Hashcash, a versão funcional que transformou a ideia em algo realmente executável. O termo "prova de trabalho" foi cunhado posteriormente, em 1999, por Markus Jakobsson e Ari Juels. Hal Finney o tornou reutilizável em 2004. Então, Satoshi citou o Hashcash nominalmente e o integrou ao Bitcoin, transformando um truque anti-spam no coração de uma moeda sólida.
