May 11, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) — White House COVID-19 adviser Dr. Anthony Fauci suggested over the weekend that masking could become a permanent seasonal facet of American life, despite mounting evidence that mask mandates did little to contain the virus.

“We’ve had practically a non-existent flu season this year merely because people were doing the kinds of public health things that were directed predominantly against COVID-19,” Fauci told Meet the Press host Chuck Todd on Sunday, the New York Post reports. “So it is conceivable that as we go on, a year or two or more from now, that during certain seasonal periods when you have respiratory-borne viruses like the flu, people might actually elect to wear masks to diminish the likelihood that you’ll spread these respiratory-borne diseases.”

Some doctors have expressed concern about historically-low flu rates being more a function of flu cases being categorized as COVID cases, due in part to financial incentives to report higher COVID numbers and partly to the similarities between flu and COVID symptoms. Regardless, the available evidence suggests that masks played a relatively small role, if any, in reducing the virus’s spread.

Early in 2020, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and U.S. Surgeon General Jerome Adams counseled against wearing masks. But the public later learned that health officials actually wanted to discourage the general public from buying masks to conserve the supply for health workers.
Despite the popular insistence that masking is essential outside one’s home, there remain reasons to doubt their effectiveness, such as the CDC’s September acknowledgement that masks cannot be counted on to keep out the coronavirus when spending 15 minutes or longer within six feet of someone, or a May 2020 study published by CDC’s peer-reviewed journal Emerging Infectious Diseases that “did not find evidence that surgical-type face masks are effective in reducing laboratory-confirmed influenza transmission, either when worn by infected persons (source control) or by persons in the general community to reduce their susceptibility.”

Fauci’s own record displays inconsistencies on masking as well as other aspects of the pandemic. In February 2020 he said there was “absolutely no reason whatsoever to wear a mask” in the United States; by July he was suggesting that Americans wear not only masks but goggles and face shields. Critics have also faulted him for floating the idea of requiring Americans to carry “certificates” documenting their immunity to COVID-19 and suggesting that handshaking should be abolished but sex with strangers remains alright if “you’re willing to take a risk.”

Most recently, Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) confronted Fauci during a Tuesday Senate hearing over the National Institutes of Health’s (NIH’s) role in funding “gain-of-function” research — which involves intentionally strengthening viruses to better study their potential effects — at the Wuhan Institute of Virology which could have given birth to COVID-19. 
Fauci denied that his department, the National Institute of Allergy & Infectious Diseases (NIAID), funded any such research; in fact, Paul cited the NIAID’s grant to the nonprofit EcoHealth Alliance “to study bat-based coronaviruses in China” including at the Wuhan lab was “gain-of-function,” which in turn funded the Wuhan research.

“There was research done with Dr. Shi and Dr. Baric,” Paul explained. “They have collaborated on gain-of-function research where they enhanced the SARS virus to infect human airway cells and they did it by merging a new spike protein on it. That is gain-of-function. That was joint research between the Wuhan Institute and Dr. Baric. You can’t deny it.”

State Department, Lawmakers Condemn Assault on Epoch Times Reporter in Hong Kong

The State Department criticized the violent assault on a reporter with the Hong Kong Epoch Times as “unacceptable” and urged a thorough investigation.

“The United States condemns the recent attack committed against an Epoch Times journalist,” a State Department spokesperson told The Epoch Times on May 11. “Attacks against journalists are unacceptable and cannot be tolerated. We urge the authorities to complete a full investigation of this incident as well as the recent attack on the Epoch Times’ Hong Kong printing facilities.”

On Tuesday morning, an unidentified man attacked reporter Sarah Liang in Hong Kong with an aluminum softball bat outside her residential building.

Without speaking a word, the man hit her more than 10 times on her legs and feet, causing her to fall to the ground. He soon fled in a black Mercedes-Benz, leaving her with multiple bruises on her legs. Liang was transported to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in an ambulance, where police arrived hours later to take notes. She was still at the hospital as of 6:30 p.m. local time.

The incident marked the latest in a series of attacks on the local outlet that has become one of the few remaining independent voices in the city.

“I feel this is declaring a war on all Hongkongers. Gangsters are now ruling Hong Kong,” Liang later said.

A witness surnamed Li, who had watched Liang’s programs, said the assailant was around 40 years of age with glasses.
“This attack is likely yet another egregious example of the Chinese Communist Party using violence to silence their critics and those seeking to hold them accountable for human rights abuses and oppression in Hong Kong,” said Rep. Greg Steube (R-Fla.) in an email to The Epoch Times.

“However, despite having their printing press destroyed and their journalists targeted, the Epoch Times has never backed down from speaking the truth about the horrors of the CCP and we applaud them for their bravery,” he said.

The Congressman was referencing the break-in of the local Epoch Times printing press that had taken place just a month earlier.

On April 12, four intruders, with two of them wielding sledgehammers, smashed computers and printing equipment inside the printing shop, forcing the facility to temporarily shut down. This was the fifth attack on the  printing shop since its founding in 2004, with masked men trying to burn it down in November 2019.

A statement from the Hong Kong Epoch Times called on “the general public in Hong Kong to continue to support The Epoch Times,” and vowed to “continue to provide truthful coverage and safeguard Hong Kong.”

Liang herself had frequently spotted suspicious vehicles near her residence. On Saturday, a man who donned a black cap and covered himself in full black ran toward Liang while she was waiting for the bus in the neighborhood. She observed a black bar fall out of his pocket. The man picked it up and left shortly after.

She also found a middle-aged man was following her on April 26 when she stepped out of a local train station. Liang purposefully circled the neighborhood to throw him off, but the man walked into the store where she had arranged an interview, seemingly knowing where she was heading. He sprinted away after Liang confronted him.

The attack on Liang drew condemnation from U.S. lawmakers and journalist associations.

Rep. Michelle Steel (R-Calif.) likened the incident to “a direct attack on democracy.”

“If it’s true that the Chinese Communist Party has been behind these attacks, they must be held accountable,” she told The Epoch Times.

CPJ’s Asia program coordinator Steven Butler, in a statement, said that “Hong Kong police cannot allow the brazen and lawless attack on Epoch Times journalist Sarah Liang to go unresolved.”

“Authorities must waste no time bringing the perpetrators to justice, and must ensure safety for all journalists working in Hong Kong,” he said.

PEN America, a nonprofit organization in New York that advocates for free expression, similarly called for “a full, transparent, and impartial investigation.”

“There is no more dangerous tactic of silencing the free press than of physically assaulting a journalist,” a spokesperson told The Epoch Times.

I am a man of faith, albeit abstract, and what I felt and saw unfold in March ‘20 began to lead me away from govt rhetoric and the devotion of the general public to the PM and his cronies...
I looked for heroes in the house, and found C Walker, Desmond Swayne, and in unfortunate retirement, Lord Sumption...

On YouTube I found Hugotalks and Talk Radio... that was all....

Then I was directed to Van M, that’s when I found my voice, and even though I was singing his words, they echoed in my heart...

I recorded “stand and deliver” in 2020, and was immediately regaled with contempt and scorn...
In February this year, before I learned about the nature of the vaccines, (and being 76 with emphysema) I was in the avant garde. I took the first jab of AZ and straight away had severe reactions which lasted ten days, I recovered eventually and was told it would be twelve weeks before the second one...

About six weeks later I was offered and took the second AZ shot, but with a little more knowledge of the dangers. Needless to say the reactions were disastrous, my hands and feet were either frozen, numb or burning, and pretty much useless for two weeks, I feared I would never play again, (I suffer with peripheral neuropathy and should never have gone near the needle.) But the propaganda said the vaccine was safe for everyone....

Then I met a member of this group, who counselled me to be careful and to have a look at what goes on with you guys...

I felt like a veil had been lifted, that I was no longer alone, that it was okay, in fact essential, to hold on to my intuition and follow my heart...

I continue to tread the path of passive rebellion and try to tow the line in order to be able to actively love my family, but it’s hard to bite my tongue with what I now know...

‘You can’t deny it’: Rand Paul calls out Fauci for involvement in origin of Wuhan virus.

The U.S. senator described the collaboration between the Fauci-led NIAID and the Wuhan Institute of Virology, but Fauci dismissed the connection as 'completely incorrect.'

WASHINGTON, D.C., May 12, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) – During a Tuesday hearing, Republican Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky confronted Dr. Anthony Fauci on his National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) funding virus enhancement experiments at the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV), accusing the institute’s director of being directly involved in the SARS-CoV-2 creation and subsequent outbreak.

Paul described the nature of the research being carried out at the WIV, known as “gain-of-function,” explaining that a resident virologist, Dr. Shi Zheng-li, has long been working on developing bat-based coronaviruses into more potent variants capable of infecting humans. So renowned is Zheng-li for this type of research that she has acquired the moniker “Bat Lady.”

“Gain-of-function research, as you know, is juicing up naturally occurring animal viruses to infect humans. To arrive at the truth, the U.S. government should admit that the Wuhan Virology Institute was experimenting to enhance the coronavirus’s ability to infect humans,” stated Paul, who is a physician and also has had the coronavirus.

Continuing, Paul related that “for years Dr. Ralph Baric, a virologist in the U.S., has been collaborating with Dr. Shi Zheng-li of the Wuhan Virology Institute, sharing his discoveries about how to create super viruses. This gain-of-function research has been funded by the NIH (National Institutes of Health); the collaboration between the U.S. and the Wuhan Virology Institute continues.”

But Fauci denied that the NIAID, a part of the U.S. National Institutes of Health, had indeed funded the collaborative work of Baric and Zheng-li: “Senator Paul, with all due respect, you are entirely, entirely, and completely incorrect.”

“The NIH has not ever and does not now fund gain-of-function research in the Wuhan Institute of Virology. Dr. Baric does not do gain-of-function research and if it is, it is according to the guidelines and is being conducted in North Carolina, not in China,” Fauci claimed.

Pressed on the type of research being carried out by Baric and funded by the taxpayer through the NIH, namely “inserting a bat-virus spike protein … into the SARS viruses,” Fauci contended that Baric was not carrying out gain-of-function research. Despite Fauci’s protests, 200 scientists signed a statement asserting that his work does qualify as gain-of-function, according to Paul.

“If you look at the grant and you look at the progress reports, it is not gain-of-function, despite the fact that people tweet that, they write about it,” Fauci insisted.

However, Paul noted that Zheng-li and Baric “collaborated on gain-of-function research where they enhanced the SARS virus to infect human airway cells and they did it by merging a new spy protein on it. That is gain-of-function. That was joint research between the Wuhan Institute and Dr. Baric. You can’t deny it.”

Tucker Carlson slams Fauci’s ‘authoritarian germ hysteria’
Fox News host Tucker Carlson picked up on the discrepancy, noting Fauci’s involvement in the creation and promotion of public health directives on account of SARS-CoV-2 while also being intimately tied to the origin of the virus and its spread throughout the world.

Carlson questioned Fauci’s “personal role” in the “pandemic,” asking whether his “authoritarian germ hysteria,” giving rise to endless mask mandates and border closures, might actually be a method to “divert attention from himself” and his funding of Zheng-li at the WIV.

The recent work of noted science journalist Nicholas Wade, who has written for academic journals Science and Nature, as well as editing science reporting in The New York Times in an illustrious career spanning half a century has given new weight to the idea that the Wuhan virus escaped from a lab in the Chinese city.

Wade published a detailed and lengthy article entitled “Origin of Covid — Following the Clues” in which he traces the various threads of the novel coronavirus, from the kind of virus it is to the money that made researching and creating it possible, ultimately placing its origin at the hands of NIAID funded Zheng-li and the WIV.

Speculations were raised about the possibility of the virus hailing from a Wuhan laboratory in the early days of coronavirus reporting at LifeSiteNews, as can be seen here, here, and here; Wade’s addition, in Carlson’s words, “all but proves it.”
