The Supreme Court dismissed former President Donald Trump’s final remaining challenge to the 2020 presidential election results this morning, a lawsuit challenging the results in the state of Wisconsin.

Also on March 8, the high court declined to hear an emergency petition for mandamus brought by pro-Trump lawyer L. Lin Wood who on Dec. 30, 2020, asked the court to block the Jan. 5, 2021 runoff elections for Georgia’s two U.S. Senate seats. The races were won by Democrats who unseated two incumbent Republicans, handing control of that chamber to Democrats as President Joe Biden began his term of office.

The court, as is its custom when refusing to hear petitions, did not explain its actions March 8. No justices indicated they were dissenting from the dismissal orders.

In the case at hand, Trump v. Wisconsin Elections Commission, court file 20-883, Trump argued the commission violated the U.S. Constitution when it established rules for mail-in voting inconsistent with state law.

The commission and local election officials “implemented unauthorized, illegal absentee voting drop boxes, compelled illegal corrections to absentee ballot witness certificates by poll workers, and encouraged widespread voter misuse of ‘indefinitely confined’ status to avoid voter ID laws, all in disregard of the Legislature’s explicit command to ‘carefully regulate’ the absentee voting process,” Trump’s petition stated.

In the petition, Trump challenged the rules under the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment and Article II of the U.S. Constitution, which states that “Each State shall appoint [electors for president and vice president] in such Manner as the Legislature thereof may direct.”

The dismissal came after the Supreme Court threw out a series of legal challenges on Feb. 22 to voting processes and results in several states left over from the recent presidential election cycle, as The Epoch Times previously reported.

Those cases concerned the presidential elections held in the battleground states of Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.

White House spokesperson Jen Psaki said Texas Gov. Greg Abbott “declined” an offer of federal funds to pay for CCP virus testing for illegal immigrants, adding that the administration hopes “he’ll reconsider.”

“The governor has complained about testing at the border,” Psaki said in an interview on MSNBC on Sunday. “FEMA, DHS has worked with local authorities, has worked with local NGOs [nongovernmental organizations] to come up with a plan that would cover 100 percent of testing costs for migrants who cross the border.”

“He has declined that funding,” she said. “That is something that doesn’t help the people of Texas, and we’re certainly hopeful that he’ll reconsider.”

Federal officials have asked Texas to assist with this issue, Abbott said Thursday, but he declined, saying testing and quarantining migrants is the federal government’s job.

“Border security is strictly a federal responsibility. The federal government alone has the responsibility to test, screen, and quarantine illegal immigrants crossing our border who may have COVID,” Abbott said in a statement. “Instead of doing their job, the Biden administration suggested it did not have the sufficient resources and, remarkably, asked Texas to assist them in aiding their illegal immigration program. Texas refused.”

A Department of Homeland Security spokesperson told CNN on Friday that the department has been working with local officials in Texas to provide CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus testing and its agreement with partners called for federal funds to cover expenses related to testing, isolation, and quarantine.

“We hope that Gov. Abbott will reconsider his decision to reject DHS’s agreement with the Texan local authorities that would enable the very testing of migrant families that Gov. Abbott says he wants,” the spokesperson said.

A Texas Division of Emergency Management spokesperson told Forbes that Abbott has sent some 40,000 virus tests to four border towns since late January, to help those communities deal with an influx of people crossing the border.

It comes as President Joe Biden and Abbott have been sparring over CCP virus protocols and measures in Texas. After Abbott announced last week that he was lifting restrictions on businesses in Texas and doing away with mask mandates, Biden denounced that decision as “Neanderthal thinking.”

Abbott alleged in interviews and social media posts that Biden’s immigration policies were the real threat and accused the president of releasing migrants with the CCP virus into Texas.

“The Biden administration has been releasing immigrants in south Texas that have been exposing Texans to COVID,” Abbott, a Republican, said in a CNBC interview Thursday.

That followed a March 3 tweet in which Abbott said, “The Biden Administration is recklessly releasing hundreds of illegal immigrants who have COVID into Texas communities. The Biden Admin. must IMMEDIATELY end this callous act that exposes Texans & Americans to COVID.”

The dispute between Biden and Abbott follows reports that over 100 virus-positive illegal immigrants were released by U.S. Border Patrol since January, according to Fox News.

Meanwhile, Abbott launched a program on March 6 that will deploy state National Guard troops and personnel from other agencies to respond to the burgeoning crisis at the southern border.

“Texas supports legal immigration but will not be an accomplice to the open border policies that cause, rather than prevent, a humanitarian crisis in our state and endanger the lives of Texans,” Abbott said in a statement to media outlets on March 6.

Abbott said Operation Lone Star will deploy air, ground, marine, and tactical border security assets to prevent Mexican criminal organizations from smuggling drugs and people into Texas.

The Supreme Court on Monday morning dismissed a Nov. 3 election-related case filed by defamation lawyer Lin Wood.

The high court did not issue a comment as it denied Wood’s case (pdf), saying, “The petitions of writs of mandamus are denied.” Wood filed several third-party cases to challenge the results of last year’s election.

Wood had asked the Supreme Court justices to block the Jan. 5 Senate runoff elections in Georgia. Democrats won both Senate seats, giving them a slim majority in the Senate.

A separate lawsuit that was filed in November by Wood was rejected by the Supreme Court in February. That lawsuit alleged that there were numerous problems with how the election was conducted, including signature matching on absentee ballots.

Wood, a high-profile defamation lawyer, has not issued a comment on his Telegram page after the Supreme Court’s decision but said on March 7 that he believes “Georgia is the most corrupt state in our country.”

Wood, 68, said last month that Georgia’s State Bar is attempting to discipline him—which Wood described as a politically motivated act of revenge: “In short, the GA State Bar is trying to crush me to silence me and prevent me from practicing law.”

The Supreme Court on Monday, separately, dismissed former President Donald Trump’s final case that challenged the results of the Nov. 3 presidential election in Wisconsin.

In dismissing Trump’s final election-related case on the docket (pdf), the Supreme Court did not provide a comment or explanation: “The petitions for writs of certiorari are denied.”

Trump’s lawyers alleged that Wisconsin election officials violated the Constitution by expanding mail-in voting in the midst of the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus pandemic. The lawsuit asserted that the state’s executive branch arbitrarily rewrote election laws without the consent of Wisconsin’s state Legislature.

It was the last of three petitions filed at the Supreme Court near the end of Trump’s presidency that the justices declined to take up. The court on Feb. 22 turned away Trump’s other two appeals, including a second Wisconsin challenge and one relating to voting in Pennsylvania, another pivotal state during the Nov. 3 election.

Trump’s lawyers filed a lawsuit two days after Wisconsin certified the election results, challenging a policy that allowed the usage of drop boxes for mail-in and absentee ballots. At the time, a federal judge and an appeals court judge rejected the former president’s elections—saying Trump waited too long to file the suit.

Regarding the Pennsylvania lawsuit, the Supreme Court made its choice to decline to hear election-related cases in mid-February. The GOP had argued in its petition that “important questions of federal law [were] implicated by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court’s 4–3 decision extending the General Assembly’s Election Day received-by deadline and mandating a presumption of timeliness for non-postmarked ballots.”

Joe Biden signed an executive order on Sunday altering the way the federal government handles elections, including by increasing voting and voter registration access for criminals in prison and on probation.

“The order will direct the Attorney General to establish procedures to provide educational materials related to voter registration and voting, and to the extent practicable, to facilitate voter registration, for all eligible individuals in the custody of the Federal Bureau of Prisons,” a fact sheet distributed by the White House states.

Former President Donald Trump said Saturday he would campaign against Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) in 2022 when she is due for reelection.

Arizona and Montana are taking legal action (pdf) to block new Biden administration immigration regulations, saying that these would cause negative consequences for the states.

The new rules would limit the capability of ICE to detain some illegal immigrants unless they pose a threat to national security, entered through the border after Nov. 1, or committed aggravated felonies.

The Biden administration says that the rules don’t impair arresting or deporting people, but the officers in the field would need to request permission from their superiors to arrest people outside of the aforementioned cases.

“If asked about the poorest policy choice I’ve ever seen in government, this would be a strong contender,” Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich said in a statement. “Blindly releasing thousands of people, including convicted criminals and those who may be spreading COVID-19 into our state, is both unconscionable and a violation of federal law. This must be stopped now to avoid a dangerous humanitarian crisis for the immigrants and the people of Arizona.”

Montana Attorney General Austin Knudsen joined the Brnovich in the lawsuit. Both filed for a preliminary injunction aiming to block the regulations from going into effect.

“Meth trafficked into Montana by Mexican drug cartels has wracked our state. The problem will only be made worse if the Biden administration continues to allow criminals to stay in the country,” Knudsen stated. “Enforcing our immigration laws and helping to keep Americans safe is one of the federal government’s most important functions. The Biden administration is failing its basic responsibility to Americans.”

Last month, Chief Deputy Matthew Thomas told Townhall that the crisis at the border had begun to re-emerge at around the end of 2020 because the human and drug trafficking cartels expected President Joe Biden to have a “hands-off” attitude with regard to the border situation.

“When [Trump] took office, we saw that this area out here went completely dead. Nobody was moving, nobody was smuggling because [the cartels] knew that Trump was going to put all hands on deck out down here and that they would be intercepted so it came to a screeching halt,” Thomas said.

“It was a very slow trickle to get back to some kind of normal but it never got back to where it was,” Thomas added.

Thomas said that since Biden has ordered to halt the construction of the southern border wall, it has created more trouble for Pinal County since it doesn’t have physical barriers, promoting the criminals to funnel through, reaching the highway and then transporting drugs or bodies throughout the country.

He added that once the people or drugs are smuggled in, they can go anywhere inside the United States, sometimes as far as Canada.

“For us, effectively, I-8 … becomes the new border and even the cartels will tell you that’s their goal line because once they get there, they’re shooting west or they’re shooting east and then they’re on a main interstate right into downtown Phoenix … we become the kickoff point for that,” the Sheriff said.

“These people and these drugs are not coming here to Pinal County to stay. This is a transport location. This is a spot they get through to get to their final destination and they’re being sent all over the country.”

Approximately 50 National Guard personnel were treated for gastrointestinal issues after eating what was described as poorly prepared food, a Pentagon spokesman said on Monday.

Six of that set were treated at outpatient military facilities while the others received care at an aid station, John Kirby told reporters at a briefing.

Some of the 5,100 troops who remain on duty at the U.S. Capitol complained of undercooked food, including raw meat. The Michigan National Guard called the reports, which included photographs, “very concerning,” and top officials from the state communicated their dismay to top defense officials.

According to a report, over a dozen service members were hospitalized after consuming the food.

A National Guard spokesman told The Epoch Times last week that there did appear to be some poorly prepared meals but said no cases of foodborne illness had been reported.

Kirby said Monday that no Guard members have been hospitalized due to foodborne illness.

He also said he recently met with Army Gen. Daniel Hokanson, the chief of the National Guard, and that leaders are making sure guardsmen deployed in Washington get healthy meals.

The leaders “are taking very seriously the need to make sure that the troops have safe and nutritious food,” Kirby said. “There’s routine inspections. He himself goes down there multiple times a week to eat with the National Guardsmen—to eat what they’re eating.”

Contractors provide food to the troops. Officials said the vendor facilities were inspected multiple times, with no substantial issues found, and that they observe the deliveries of the meals, take pictures of the food, and inquire with soldiers regarding what’s being served.

The food issues prompted a bipartisan group of lawmakers to call for per diems for the troops, as well as retroactive payment for members who bought meals because of worries about sanitation.

Troops were surged to Washington in January following the U.S. Capitol breach and thousands remain in the city despite objections from a number of legislators.

U.S. Capitol Police acting Chief Yogananda Pittman asked the Pentagon last week to extend the Guard support beyond March 12.

“The USCP is extremely grateful for the Department of Defense and the National Guard support provided since January 6th. We understand the Guard has a tremendous service need back home responding to the COVID-19 pandemic,” the agency said in a statement, adding that threats to members of Congress are up 93 percent in the first two months of this year when compared to last year.

Pentagon officials haven’t yet said whether they’ll grant the request.

Former President Donald Trump over the last two weeks laid the foundation for exerting financial leverage over the Republican Party apparatus by instructing supporters to donate solely to his campaign website and political action committee while demanding that the Republican National Committee (RNC) and its congressional chamber affiliates stop using his name and likeness to raise funds.

The stratagem is all but sure to split a substantial chunk of donations from the GOP and allow Trump to divert money from the RNC that could otherwise end up bankrolling the campaigns of the Republicans he is looking to oust. Given the president’s immense popularity among Republican voters, the RNC, the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC), and the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) face the dire prospect of raising funds with the handicap of being unable to use the name of the man who reigns supreme over the Republican party due to his ability to energize the base and pull in a mass of small donors.

“He could cripple them doing this. They will have to rely on larger donors that cannot give unlimited sums of money,” Rich Baris, the director of Big Data Polls, told The Epoch Times.

“And that low-dollar base that drove Trump’s fundraising when he had a committee joint with the RNC … it’ll probably take some time, but most of them will get the message, and they’ll give to Trump’s PAC instead.”

The RNC on March 8 brushed aside Trump’s cease-and-desist letter, arguing in a letter obtained by The Epoch Times that it is within its First Amendment rights to use the name of a public figure to raise funds.

The move prompted a fiery statement from Trump again instructing supporters to donate to his website and political action committee (PAC), rather than the RNC.

“No more money for RINOS,” Trump said in a statement, using an acronym for Republicans in Name Only. “They do nothing but hurt the Republican Party and our great voting base—they will never lead us to Greatness. Send your donation to Save America PAC at DonaldJTrump.com. We will bring it all back stronger than ever before!”

The RNC’s letter, written by chief counsel Justin Riemer, states that Trump and RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel enjoy a close relationship, alleging the former president over the weekend reaffirmed to her that he approves of the RNC’s current use of his name in fundraising and other materials, including for an upcoming donor retreat event in Palm Beach in which Trump is slated to participate.

“The RNC has not sent any fundraising requests in President Trump’s name or used his image since before he left office, nor would it do so without his prior approval,” Riemer wrote.

Trump had made the initial appeal to supporters to donate only to his PAC during a highly-anticipated speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) on Feb. 28. The address marked Trump’s first public appearance after leaving the White House. The excommunication of his social media profiles by the Silicon Valley giants amplified the silence and suspense ahead of the speech.

As a testament to Trump’s appeal, the speech was viewed by 5.7 million people on Fox News, breaking the network’s all-time Sunday viewership record. More than 30 million people watched the speech online, according to streaming data from VFT-Solutions.

Trump made the fundraising remarks during the portion of the CPAC speech devoted to election integrity. He expressed doubts over the legitimacy of President Joe Biden’s 2020 victory. The choice of context is notable because the RNC appears to have left Trump to vie for himself in the aftermath of the Nov. 3 election. Neither the RNC nor the NRSC nor the NRCC was a party to any of the election lawsuits Trump filed. McDaniel, the RNC chairwoman, has not gone on the record to affirm Trump’s doubts about the election.

“You look at the election integrity issues of 2020 and ask who is responsible for maintaining that integrity and it would have to fall back on the RNC, which raised about $900 million this last election cycle and appears not to have been sufficiently involved, before the election, during the election, or after the election in contesting it,” Michael Johns, the co-founder of the National Tea Party movement, told The Epoch Times.

“It’s incredible to me that we’ve had to rely on an American entrepreneur who owns a pillow company and on a very bright trade adviser … to take up the arguments that you would think, logically, would be made by the RNC,” Johns added, referring to MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell and Peter Navarro, Trump’s director of the White House Office of Trade and Manufacturing Policy.

A week after the CPAC speech, a Trump adviser confirmed to The Epoch Times that the president sent cease-and-desist letters demanding that the RNC, the NRSC, and the NRCC stop using his name and likeness. Calls placed to the three committees went unanswered.

As of the morning of March 7, the NRCC was still using Trump’s name in its standard messaging for new email list registrations. The home page of the NRSC advertised Trump t-shirts from its online shop.

Setting up a war chest of his own will allow Trump to spend money against Republican incumbents who would otherwise receive the backing of the RNC. That includes Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), who is the only Republican senator running for re-election in 2022 of the seven who voted to convict Trump during the second impeachment trial, which concluded with the Senate acquitting Trump. The former president issued a statement on March 6 vowing to campaign against Murkowski, who is serving her third term.

There is no precedent in modern politics of the RNC backing a primary challenger against a Republican incumbent, according to Johns, the National Tea Party movement co-founder. Johns said the RNC has not been meaningfully aligned with Trump’s Make America Great Agenda (MAGA) and, over the past four years has often backed primary opponents against pro-MAGA candidates. As a result, the 10 House Republicans who voted to impeach Trump would have been running for re-election with money the RNC raised using the president’s name.

“He ran to overhaul and save the country, but also to overhaul and save the Republican Party that was not addressing some of the core issues of the time, like China, trade, immigration, in a forceful enough way, and was relying on professional consultants, had become very insular, was not engaged in building the party out in much of a populist way,” Johns said.

“Four years later, that largely continues to be the case. The party operations, the party leadership are not completely Trump-driven. And it only makes sense that if the donor intent is to support President Trump’s 2024 candidacy, potentially, or whether it’s to support candidates that are Trump-aligned in 2022, that you would donate through his vehicles directly and not to the party, which is going to continue to back, for instance, these 10 House members who voted for his impeachment,” he added. “The president’s initiatives are sensible, and perhaps even overdue.”

Aside from Murkowski, five establishment GOP senators will not run for re-election in 2022, including two who voted to convict Trump during the Senate trial, Sen. Patrick J. Toomey (R-Pa.) and Sen. Richard Burr (R-N.C.). The retirements, coupled with Trump’s fundraising stratagem, open the field for Trump to fundamentally reshape the Senate by backing candidates aligned with his America First platform.

Trump will also be able to invest in the primary challenge against Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), who issued a scathing statement against him before voting in favor of impeaching him.

“This keeps him in control. They need to work through him if they want to raise money off of him. I don’t see why anyone would think they could continue to ride his coattails without his approval. Not to mention that many candidates that these organizations support aren’t America First candidates,” Jason Meister, a member of the Trump advisory board, told The Epoch Times.

“Trump needs his supporters flush with cash so that when it’s time to raise money for America-First candidates and the America-First agenda they have the resources. There’s only so many times you can go to the same well.”

In another sign of Trump’s expanding ascendancy over the Republican party, the RNC has moved a portion of its spring donor retreat to Mar-a-Lago, according to a Republican attending the event. Mara-a-Lago is Trump’s exclusive club and residence in Palm Beach, Florida.
