A former congressional campaign volunteer who was recorded on hidden camera saying she could deliver thousands of votes for tens of thousands of dollars, had a series of gift bags that were similar to the one she was recorded giving to an elderly woman, arrest warrants stated.

The warrants say that in exchange for $500, Raquel Rodriguez agreed to show a person that posed as a potential client how she could get votes for the candidates of her choice, reported San Antonio Express-News.

Rodriguez was arrested in January and faces four felony charges.

She was recorded in October last year by journalists working undercover for Project Veritas.

In the video, Rodriguez visits an elderly woman and appears to assist her in changing her mail ballot from Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) to Democrat challenger MJ Hegar.

Rodriguez then gave the 72-year old lady a gift bag that had a shawl. The warrant says the same type of gift bags were found at Rodriguez’s home office.

On Oct. 29, the Texas Attorney General’s office started investigating the Bexar County Elections Office.

Museums should not be bullied by left-wing campaign groups into removing statues and rewriting history, British Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden has said.

Dowden highlighted the risk of museums being “pushed around by unrepresentative campaign groups, principally from the left.”

These left-wing groups “put bullying pressure on institutions to rapidly change their approach, to remove our history, to remove items and statues and so on, in a very short-termist way,” he said on March 2 at the History Matters conference organised by Policy Exchange, a London-based centre-right think tank.

“I think that that is a danger that needs to be guarded against, because it can take generations to build history and heritage, and it can take just a few short-termist decisions to remove it and to remove it for good.”

Dowden said that the left has been applying pressure on cultural institutions “quietly, for years.”

He said he had talked to institutions “who felt they were being bullied, particularly by left-wing campaigners,” adding that some had been subjected to threats of defunding.

A virtual meeting was held by G7 members on Feb. 19, prior to the G7 summit scheduled for June in Cornwall, United Kingdom. On the eve of the preparatory meeting for the annual G7, it can be seen from public reports and Chinese media rebuttals that China has moved to the top of the group’s agenda. As the presidency of the G7 this year, the UK is sending a strong signal to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, the host of the conference, called for a world pandemic treaty to ensure proper transparency and data sharing on Feb. 15. A Reuters reporter asked Johnson who he held responsible for the lack of transparency on the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic. Johnson replied: “I think it’s fairly obvious that most of the evidence seems to point to the disease having originated in Wuhan.” Johnson’s remarks sounded too frank and straightforward to the CCP.

What also made the CCP furious is that the British regulator for the communications services Ofcom announced on Feb. 4 that it had revoked CGTN’s licence to broadcast in the UK. In a statement, Ofcom said that CGTNC “is controlled by a body which is ultimately controlled by the Chinese Communist Party.” CGTNC’s license is unlawful because CGTN’s license-holder in the UK, Star China Media Limited (SCML), was the distributor of the CGTN service in the UK, rather than “the provider” of the service. This is a violation of UK broadcasting laws, which stipulate that broadcast licensees must have control over the licensed service, including editorial oversight over the programs they show.

What surprised the CCP even more was that on Feb. 11, amendments to the Medicines and Medical Devices Bill became law in the UK. According to a report by The Epoch Times, “It’s the first time UK lawmakers have enacted any legislation that addresses the issue of consent on human tissue from overseas.” The significance of this legislation is that “during debates, many cited at length concerns over the origins of plastinated bodies exhibitions, and evidence from a tribunal that concluded state-sanctioned forced organ harvesting is still occurring in China,” the report said.

A group of House Republicans is demanding a hearing on the White House’s response to unaccompanied illegal immigrant children found near the U.S.-Mexico border, according to a letter sent Thursday.

Noting a “sharp increase in unaccompanied alien children” along the border, the lawmakers said there should be “proper oversight” over the Department of Homeland Security, which oversees U.S. immigration enforcement, and the Department of Health and Human Services to determine whether there is a plan to stop the surge of migrants.

In recent days, warnings from a Democratic lawmaker whose district includes a portion of Texas along the Southern Border, as well as an SUV crash that killed at least 13 people in Southern California that Border Patrol agents believe included illegal immigrants who were smuggled through a fence gap, have placed more pressure on the Biden administration to outline a comprehensive plan for what some have described as a border crisis.

“According to news reports, U.S. border agents apprehended more than 1,500 migrant youths just last week and 300 more were taken into custody on Sunday,” said a letter from Reps. Ken Buck (R-Colo.), Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.), Tom Tiffany (R-Wisc.), Chip Roy (R-Texas), and Victoria Spartz (R-Ind.) to House Subcommittee on Immigration and Citizenship Chairwoman Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.).

“The number of [unaccompanied alien children] encounters shows no signs of decreasing—a fact the Biden Administration has acknowledged by opening one of the same influx facilities that the Trump Administration used, by keeping other facilities on ready status, and by requesting that other federal agencies provide a list of facilities that could potentially be used to house” the migrants, they said, noting that Biden administration officials are holding children for longer than the 72-hour statutory maximum.

“At the same time, the Biden Administration has repealed Trump Administration programs and policies that helped to address the rising tide of illegal immigration, including [unaccompanied alien children],” the letter stipulated.

It comes as House Democrats postponed plans for a vote on President Joe Biden’s immigration reform bill. House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) confirmed the vote delay to Politico, suggesting it might not pass.

“We need to engage in some consultation with key members and stakeholders, but I see no reason why we wouldn’t mark it up when we reconvene in April,” he said.

Added Rep. Tom O’Halleran (D-Ariz.) to Politico: “We need to have a discussion. It was put together by a few people. I don’t know what the role of the administration has been.”

Sinéad O’Connor tears up a photo of Pope John Paul II on "Saturday Night Live"

On October 3, 1992, Irish musician Sinéad O’Connor stuns the audience at 30 Rockefeller Plaza and viewers across the United States when she tears up a photo of Pope John Paul II during a performance on Saturday Night Live.

O’Connor surprised the SNL staff when she opted to sing an acapella version of the Bob Marley song “War” instead of a song from her recent album.

She gave a stark, intense performance of the song, which decries “ignoble and unhappy regimes” that hold people in “sub-human bondage,” changing some of the lyrics to specifically mention child abuse. At the conclusion, O’Connor held a picture of the pope to the camera and tore it to pieces, saying “Fight the real enemy.”

The audience was silent throughout the performance, but NBC reported hearing from nearly a thousand angry callers over the next few days—as well as seven who called to support O’Connor. Madonna, something of a musical rival to O’Connor at the time, criticized her performance, telling The Irish Times:

"I think there is a better way to present her ideas rather than ripping up an image that means a lot to other people." 

The next week’s SNL guest, Joe Pesci, devoted his opening monologue to condemning O'Connor. Two weeks later, at a Bob Dylan tribute concert in Madison Square Garden, O’Connor was shouted off stage.

Despite the outrage, O’Connor stood by her actions and clarified that she wanted to “face some very difficult truths,” namely the epidemic of child abuse in her native country. 
It would be years before most Americans would grasp the extent of abuse in the Irish Catholic Church and connected institutions, but the topic was all too personal to O’Connor.

As a teenager, the singer had spent 18 months in a Magdalene asylum (also known as a Magdalene laundry), an institution nominally meant to house wayward or promiscuous youth but which, in a number of cases, were sites of physical, sexual, and emotional abuse of children at the hands of clergy. 

The year after O’Connor’s SNL appearance, a mass grave was discovered on the grounds of one such institution, prompting an investigation from the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child. As these abuses and thousands of other cases of child abuse across Ireland and the U.S. finally came to light in the 2000s, the real target of O’Connor’s shocking protest became increasingly clear.
