Check out the comical Bond villain, Schwab & his sidekick Gates. They intend to maintain a high tempo of pandemics & claim to knock them down before they become a problem.

The awkward difficulty comes once it’s appreciated that PANDEMICS CANNOT HAPPEN. Not serious ones, anyway. It’s the high apparent transmission rate of common colds coupled with their generally low morbidity & mortality that means at your worst, you can usually continue to go about your day. But it’s of no geopolitical consequence.
A more lethal illness such as influenza can make you very unwell. Under these circumstances, your withdrawal from normal life for a few days is pretty much involuntary. Too ill to be out & about. Still, allegedly responsible for 8-40K winter deaths annually in UK. Not worth interrupting the lives of almost 8 billion people over.

Consider a much more severe infectious Respiratory illness. This will render your unwell like flu only worse & more quickly. I invite people to think of “airborne Ebola”. Very frightening. But here’s the thing. It makes you very unwell the day you acquire the illness. You withdraw completely & you’ve no choice in the matter. Your ability to infect anyone else is severely limited. The outbreak is self limiting.

I genuinely think global pandemics worth getting concerned about CANNOT HAPPEN. It’s not luck. It’s the way infectious agents & animals like humans have co-evolved. Had this not been so, we’d have been wiped out on any of several occasions in the past.

As for the concept that “increases in human travel is what produces the uniquely vulnerable position”, that’s complete bull. It’s the exact opposite. Frequent travel to every corner of the globe is what endures we never now have populations with no exposure & thus little immunity to novel pathogens.
We’ve never been in better shape to protect ourselves as a species.

DONT BELIEVE THESE CRIMINAL LIARS! Global pandemics of severe illnesses aren’t possible.

All 3 cases tested positive during central quarantine, and were all close contacts of a case that tested positive on Tuesday, September 13, a student from another province who had come to Shanghai to study.
