It was a red-letter day for me yesterday. If you don’t know, we are currently living up at the family (extended family) cabin that hasn’t really been properly tended to in decades.
The place is small, and was built piecemeal starting when my husband was just a boy and he was digging the foundation for it. For a long time there was no bathroom or real kitchen. It was basically just a garage. A project headed up by his stepfather who was an abusive drunk. Perhaps you can picture it.
Anyway, it’s now a little 2 bed, 1 bath that had so much deferred maintenance building up that it was threatening to take the place right down. Our kids love it up here, so since the hubs is newly retired and I can work anywhere, we decided to come up here and do what we can to fix it up while we figure out where we want to really settle.
So, yesterday…we replaced all the old, decrepit kitchen appliances with new ones that actually work. AND installed a washer and dryer - something that wasn’t here at all. And the local (15 miles away) laundromat is a real dump, so that was getting real old real quick.
Anyway…I have never been more grateful for machines to wash my clothes and dishes, a new water heater that lets me actually fill the tub and other luxuries like a garbage disposal, water filtration system and a fridge that doesn’t leak. I feel like I just won the lottery or something 😆
I mean - I didn’t. We paid for it all but to actually have a load of laundry in while I write this is sublime.
Just wanted to share that with y’all bc I’m laughing at my own giddiness. I’ve been coming to this cabin for 30 years and it’s always had shitty water, no conveniences and it had been steadily collecting dirt and rodents. It feels good to be taking care of it.

Every single time you stood your ground and didn’t wear a mask, refused the jab, pushed back when they tried to get you to take a test, stand on the stickers, follow the arrows, etc, you SHONE as a light in the darkness.
Every time you felt you weren’t doing enough or you shook when you had to stand your ground, you were a Light in the darkness. A beacon. And whether you knew it at the time or not, others were paying attention and some were wishing they had your courage. Some were furious with you for JUST THAT REASON. They wanted to be you, but they didn’t have it in them and they hated you for it. Think mirror.
Some didn’t hate you at all, but were too afraid to try. They were wondering how in the world you were able to go against the grain? And they SAW you. Their CHILDREN SAW YOU.
You were planting seeds.
And you may never know which of your small acts of defiance made a difference, but I can guarantee you that they did. Absolutely they did.
Know this.
You were raising your frequency. You refused to sink into the one of shame and fear and submission.
God bless you for every single thump of your heart. And every single time you mustered up to do what you knew was right. We all know how it felt.
