Northern lights tonight in Arivaca, Arizona!

Current DST index shows us in a strong storm (Now time is shown at the far right of the graph.)

This graph is showing the last 24 hours and normally we are operating in the no to occasionally moderate storm range. What we’ve been experiencing is much more active than that, as you can see. And there’s MOAR incoming.

🌍 Geomagnetic Storm Alert - South Africa
Issued: 2025 Nov 12 00:15 SAST
Brought to you by GaiaSX and WeAreZA

* Do share this with pilots, mariners and anyone relying on GPS signals. Airports Company South Africa / Eskom Hld SOC Ltd, you were warned...

⚠️ G4 (Severe) Geomagnetic Storm Watch - Starting Tonight!
Highest Predicted Storm Levels:
Nov 11: G2 (Moderate)
Nov 12: G4 (Severe)
Nov 13: G3 (Strong)
Issued by SWPC: 2025 Nov 11 18:40 UTC

Take a moment to let this sink in, this doesn’t happen often!! We have *three* fast to very fast CMEs incoming, one possibly clocking over 1400 km/s. The models disagree on exact speeds, but the bottom line is clear: this is a rare, rapid-fire solar storm tsunami. And AR 4274 might not be done yet.

🌞 What’s Happening
Three large CMEs launched from sunspot region AR 4274 between Nov 9–11 is headed to Earth. The first is expected late Nov 11, with the most intense impact midday Nov 12. If forecasts verify, this could be one of the strongest geomagnetic events of 2025 and might even surpass May 2024!!

📈 Forecast Summary (SAST)
• Nov 11: G2 storming likely from late evening
• Nov 12: G4 storming expected midday, continuing into the night
• Nov 13: G3 activity may persist through Thursday

📡 What It Means
• Satellite and GPS disruptions are likely
• Power grid fluctuations possible (especially at high latitudes)
• No direct danger to people or animals

🌌 Aurora Australis (Southern Lights)
Yes, you read that right. During G3–G4 storms, Aurora Australis may be visible from South Africa.

🎯 Best Chances
• Nights of Nov 12, 13 and possibly 14th
• Between 21:00 and 04:00 SAST
• Look south from dark-sky locations (Northern Cape, Eastern Cape highlands, Western Cape as well as the Southern and Southeastern Coasts are prime viewing spots)

📸 How to See & Photograph It
• Get away from city lights
• Use a camera with long exposure (start with 10s, ISO 1600–6400, wide aperture)
• Look for green or red arcs low on the southern horizon

🔋 Bonus Tips
• Bring warm clothes, snacks, and a power bank
• Turn off headlights!
• Be respectful... and enjoy the show

Stay tuned. This is going to be a magnificent event and something to remember...
