Restored footage from 1896 of pedestrians walking down the stairs of a foot-bridge onto the streets of New York City, United States. This footage was filmed by pioneering French filmmaker Alexandre Promio, who worked for the Lumière brothers assigned to market and present motion pictures worldwide. Between April 1896 and September 1897 Promio visited several cities around the world to demonstrate the new technology and capture footage.

It's confirmed: both Antarctica and Greenland are losing ice-around 350 billion tons each year—and, as a result, sea level has risen 11.1 millimeters worldwide since 1992.
This photo shows a summertime channel created by the flow of melted ice, which ultimately carries the water away from the glacier to the sea.
In this activity, students will learn about sea ice and land ice. They will observe ice melting on a solid surface near a body of water and ice melting in a body of water.
Prior to the activity, students will predict what each situation will do to the level of water and then compare their prediction to what they observe.
Sea level is rising, in part, because melting glaciers on land are adding more water to Earth's oceans. Glaciers - large sheets of ice and snow - exist on land all year long.

The Quimbaya artifacts are a group of small gold pieces found in Colombia, South America and crafted by the Quimbaya people. The overtly stylized gold objects measure between 2″ and 3″, with each piece customized to a unique look.
Researchers have classified them as depictions of lizards, butterflies, birds, and insects common to the area, yet it’s unmistakable that they also look like many of our modern-day flying machines; some complete with tail rudders and propellers. The existence of so many similarities to modern-day airplanes supports the “out of place artifact” theory – they seem far too advanced for the Quimbaya.
Even though the Quimbaya produced many different types of gold objects, most of the attention is focused on the ones which appear too advanced for their early civilization.

For a quick moment, imagine you were born in 1900. When you are 14, World War I starts, and ends on your 18th birthday with 22 million people killed. Later in the year, a Spanish Flu epidemic hits the planet and runs until you are 20. Fifty million people die from it in those two years. Yes, 50 million.
When you're 29, the Great Depression begins. Unemployment hits 25%, global GDP drops 27%. That runs until you are 33. The country nearly collapses along with the world economy. When you turn 39, World War II starts. You aren’t even over the hill yet.
When you're 41, the United States is fully pulled into WWII. Between your 39th and 45th birthday, 75 million people perish in the war and the Holocaust kills six million. At 52, the Korean War starts and five million perish.
At 64 the Vietnam War begins, and it doesn’t end for many years. Four million people die in that conflict. Approaching your 62nd birthday you have the Cuban Missile Crisis, a tipping point in the Cold War. Life on our planet, as we know it, could well have ended. Great leaders prevented that from happening.
As you turn 75, the Vietnam War finally ends. Think of everyone on the planet born in 1900. How do you survive all of that? A child in 1985 didn’t think their 85 year old grandparent understood how hard school was. Yet those grandparents survived through everything listed above.
Perspective is an amazing thing. With so much happening right now and as 2023 ends, let's try to keep things in perspective, knowing that we will get through all of this. In the history of the world, there has never been a storm that lasted forever. This too shall pass.

This is a photograph of Lee Miller in Hitler’s bathtub in his apartment, coincidentally being the same day of Hitler’s suicide. Miller admitted that after taking this picture, she took a bath and slept in Hitler’s bed.
Miller was a model who quit to pursue a career in photojournalism as a war photographer for Vogue as WW2 broke out. She utilized surrealism photography of the war with the aim of providing context to events that were occurring.
