A pre-publication fact-check pass for a single YMYL health page

The question: before a health article ships, what is the minimum verification sequence that a quality rater would expect to have happened behind the scenes?

Reverse-engineer it from how raters are told to judge. Per the QRG, your-money-or-your-life pages get the strictest treatment, and "medical information should be written or produced by people or organizations with appropriate medical expertise." The pre-publication pass:

— Pull every factual claim into a list. Each one needs a source line.
— For each claim, locate a primary source: a peer-reviewed study, a guideline body (a national health service, a recognized clinical society), or a government health agency. A secondary article citing a study is not the source; the study is.
— Flag any claim that rests on a single study or a preprint. Single-study claims are the most common silent error.
— Check the source date. Superseded guidelines are a trust failure even when the prose is fluent.
— Verify that the named reviewer holds a credential matching the claim's domain, and that the credential is verifiable off-site.
— Date-stamp the review with the reviewer's name on the page.

Caveat: this pass raises accuracy and reviewability; it does not, by itself, establish the site-level reputation the QRG also weighs. A correct page on a domain with no recognized medical standing still rates lower than the same page on an established medical site. Fact-checking is necessary, not sufficient.

What we still don't know: how much weight the systems place on a named medical reviewer versus the domain's overall reputation when the two diverge — a correct page on an unknown site versus a sloppier page on a famous one.

Auditing one review article for genuine first-hand experience

The question: does this review actually demonstrate that someone used the thing, or does it merely assert that they did?

The added "E" for Experience in late-2022 QRG made this a discrete evaluation axis. Here is a checklist to audit a single product or service review against it.

Look for evidence that cannot be paraphrased from a spec sheet:
— Original media: photographs with the product in a real environment, not the manufacturer's render. EXIF data and inconsistent backgrounds across shots both signal genuine capture.
— Failure modes the brand wouldn't volunteer: a specific defect, an edge case, a thing that broke after three weeks.
— Process detail: the setup quirk, the part of the manual that was wrong, the dimension that didn't match the listing.
— Comparative specificity: "quieter than the X I owned previously" rather than "very quiet."
— Temporal markers: "after two months," "on the fourth wash" — evidence of duration, not a same-day impression.

Score the page by how many claims survive the test "could a competent writer have produced this without ever touching the product?" The fewer that survive, the stronger the experience signal.

Caveat: these are signals correlated with real experience, not proof of it. A skilled fabricator can simulate several. And the QRG treats experience as one input among needs-met and trust; an experience-rich page on an untrustworthy site still rates poorly.

What we still don't know: whether algorithmic systems detect original media and first-hand markers at scale, or whether "experience" remains largely a human-rater construct that influences models only indirectly through training data.

Google выпустил в релиз Gemini 3.8 flash

Constructing an About page that survives a rater's reputation check

The question: when a quality rater lands on your About page mid-investigation, what specific elements convert it from a marketing artifact into trust evidence?

The QRG instructs raters to find out "who is responsible for the website" and to look for information about the site's reputation. Build the page to answer those questions before they're asked.

The construction order:
— State the responsible entity plainly: legal name, not just a brand. For a company, the registered name; for a solo site, the real person.
— Provide a physical or contact pathway. The QRG explicitly notes that a satisfying amount of contact information is part of trustworthiness, especially for transactional and YMYL sites.
— Describe the site's purpose and editorial process — how content is produced and checked. Vague mission statements add nothing; a stated review process does.
— Link to the people: named team members with their own profile pages and verifiable credentials.
— Surface third-party corroboration: press coverage, awards from recognized bodies, professional memberships. Self-praise carries no weight; external attestation does.

Caveat: an About page is a claim, and the QRG is explicit that reputation is established by what independent sources say, not by what the site says about itself. The page makes your claims legible and easy to corroborate; it cannot substitute for the corroboration.

What we still don't know: the degree to which a strong About page influences algorithmic ranking versus only human ratings — the rater data trains systems indirectly, and the transmission function is opaque.
Running the reputation research a rater would run on your own brand

The question: if a quality rater investigated your site's reputation today, what would they conclude — and can you find out before they do?

The QRG gives raters an explicit procedure for off-site reputation research. You can replicate it on your own entity. The protocol:

— Search [brand name] reviews and [brand name] scam, exactly as the guidelines suggest raters do. Note that the QRG warns raters to weight independent sources over the site's own claims.
— Read sources the rater is told to trust: independent reviews, expert assessments, news articles, and for businesses, complaint records. Disregard your own testimonials.
— Distinguish prominence from sentiment. A single bad review is noise; a pattern across independent sources is a signal.
— For a named author, repeat the search on the person, since the QRG asks raters to research content creators on YMYL topics.
— Record what's missing. The QRG notes that for many small sites, an absence of reputation information is itself a limitation a rater accounts for.

Caveat: you are not a calibrated rater, and you cannot see your own brand neutrally. The exercise surfaces gaps; it does not reproduce a rater's judgment, which is anchored by training and examples you don't have.

What we still don't know: how directly this human reputation signal feeds ranking. Raters do not set rankings; their aggregate judgments inform system evaluation. The path from a bad reputation search to a ranking effect is real but indirect and unquantified.
