In February, more than 2 thousand security guards went on strike. Governor Kathy Hochul called the strike illegal. She fired everyone who didn't show up for work on time. Instead of them, National Guard soldiers were sent to prisons.

Now the prison staff has been reduced from 13.5 to 10 thousand people. Authorities plan to close up to five prisons and start releasing prisoners early. Those who remain in prison for 15 to 110 days will be eligible for early release. Those convicted of murder, arson and terrorism will not be released.

The prison administration collects data on each candidate: whether they have a permanent address, who will follow them after they leave, and whether there are active arrest warrants for other cases.

The 72-year-old Self made the reference during a House of Representatives subcommittee hearing investigating whether there is an "industrial censorship complex."
The hearing took place Tuesday after Republicans accused Biden-era policies of aiming to suppress right-wing viewpoints.

Democratic Representative Julie Johnson, also from Texas, sharply criticized Self’s comments. She said she was alarmed that he quoted something tied to "German atrocities during World War II."

Later, Johnson posted a video of Self’s remarks on X, writing:

"Joseph Goebbels was a real Nazi and one of Hitler’s closest allies. My Republican colleagues are probably better off not quoting him during congressional hearings."
