Walgreens COVID-19 test registration system left patient data unprotected - Recode

Drugstore chain Walgreens Boots Alliance's (WBA.O) COVID-19 test registration system exposed data of potentially millions of people, including their phone numbers and email addresses, Recode reported on Monday.

The data also exposed names, dates of birth and gender identities on the open web for potentially anyone to see and for the multiple ad trackers on Walgreens' site to collect, the report said.

New York subway system extends policy withholding death benefits from unvaccinated employees

A senior official announced on Monday that New York's Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) will extend a policy granting death benefits to vaccinated employees who die from COVID-19 through the end of the year.

The authority has provided a $500,000 death benefit to its nearly 68,000 employees since last year, according to The New York Times. But when coronavirus vaccines became more widely available in April, the organization made the decision to only offer those benefits to families of vaccinated individuals.

LAPD employees sue city over vaccine and mask mandates

Six Los Angeles Police Department employees are suing the city for its vaccine and mask mandate, claiming it violates their constitutional right to privacy. The group of employees is also suing LAPD Chief Michael Moore and Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, who mandated on July 27 that all city employees must be vaccinated or take weekly COVD-19 tests.

The suit alleges the vaccine mandate ignores studies about COVID-19 immunity from antibodies and that the city does not provide a way for people who have recovered from COVID-19 to show antibody test results.
