#SpiritualTreasures: When an individual—irrespective of how regular they may be in Prayer and fasting—opposes [the saints] and becomes adamant in causing them grief, the jealousy of God is incensed and His wrath surges forth against those who oppose them. For such people have sought to inflict grief upon the beloved of God and at that time, neither do the Prayers of such an opponent serve any benefit, nor their fasting. For through the observance of Prayer and fasting, they sought to please God, but now they have displeased Him through another action. How then can such a person receive the pleasure of God when the cause for His displeasure still exists? (Malfuzat – Volume II, p. 61)

Assalamo alaikum

We have entered the final month of the Islamic calendar, Dhul Hijjah. It’s the blessed month of HAJJ and a great period for all believers to gain spiritual benefits and rewards even if one cannot go for pilgrimage. Often we overlook and miss this golden opportunity.

*MERITS OF THESE DAYS*
▪ Hadhrat Abu Hurairah (ra) narrated that the Holy Prophet (sa) said:

*”On no days is the worship of Allah desired more than in the (first) ten days of Dhul Hijjah. The fast of each of these days is equal to the fast of a whole year, and the worship of each of these nights is equal to the worship of Laylatul-Qadr.”* (Tirmidhi)

▪It’s reported that “*The Holy Prophet (sa) used to fast the [first] nine days of Dhul Hijjah*”. (Nasa’i: 2417)

Other good deeds are:
▪ Sincere repentance
▪ Staying away from all acts of disobedience
▪ Offering Salaat in congregation
▪ Giving Sadaqa and doing social services and charitable deeds
▪ Dhikr (remembrance of Allah) and reciting the Quran
▪ Qurbani (Sacrfice of an animal) on Eid.
▪Spending time in the mosque for special Dhikr and Dua on YAUM ‘ARAFAT (the 9th of Dhul Hijjah - Tuesday, June 27th).
▪ Fasting on the Day of ‘Arafat, which according to Hadith, expiates the sins of two years, i.e., the preceding year and coming year.

May Allah enable us to act upon these traditions and derive maximum benefit from these upcoming holy days. Ameen

The link between Sacrifice and Eid-ul-Adha

The sacrifice of an animal during these days is a symbol whereby a Muslim declares their willingness and determination to kill the animal within them, to sacrifice themselves, their power and all their beloved ones in order to win the eternal pleasure of their Lord. If such a person does not put in their level best to accomplish that self-abnegation after performing their sacrifice, they are in no way different from the one who kills an animal for the purpose of food.

The Holy Qur'ān has mentioned the significance of sacrifice in these remarkable words:

“Neither the flesh nor the blood of your sacrifices reach God, but it is your righteousness that reaches Him”. (Surah al-Hajj, Ch.22: V.38)
