Brigandine Armour from the Republic of Venice dated around 1490 on display at the Dogeโs Palace in Venice
"Varus, give me back my legions!" ~ Emperor Augustus
The Battle of the Teutoburg Forest took place in the Teutoburg Forest in 9 CE, when an alliance of Germanic tribes ambushed and decisively destroyed three Roman legions and their auxiliaries, led by Publius Quinctilius Varus.
Contemporary and modern historians have generally regarded Arminius' victory over Varus as "Rome's greatest defeat", one of the most decisive battles recorded in military history, and as "a turning-point in world history".

Fort Antoine, Monaco
Built by the Prince of Monaco in the early 18th century, during the Spanish War of Succession (1700-1715) when it was feared that Monaco would be invaded by the British and Spanish. The invasion never took place, and the fortress was abandoned soon after it was built
During the French Revolution, the revolutionaries occupied Monaco and used the fortress until the fall of Napoleon, in 1815. In the 19th century, Monacoโs defense came under the control of Paris and the Fort fell into disuse and became dilapidated and little more than a ruin
After the fall of France in 1940, Louis II of Monaco, was able to maintain their neutrality, but in 1942 Italian forces occupied the principality and garrisoned Fort Antoine. During the war, the tunnels under the fort were used as air-raid shelters
In 1943 the Germans occupied Monaco and in 1944, the fort was badly damaged during the liberation by the Allies
The fortress was rebuilt in 1953 and an open-air theater was constructed within the old fort.
