The Castlestrange stone is located in the grounds of "Castlestrange House" near Athleague in County Roscommon, Ireland.

It is a granite boulder decorated with flowing spirals in the La Tène style, dating from the Iron Age period between 300 BC and 100 AD.

Only three other stones of this type have been found in Ireland, the Turoe Stone in County Galway, the Killycluggin Stone in County Cavan and the Derrykeighan Stone in County Antrim. All four stones lie on roughly the same line connecting them on a map of Ireland. The use of the stones is not known but it is assumed they served some religious or ritual purpose.

The emperor Valentinian III, with the help of his courtier, Heraclius, prepares to liquidate Aetius in Ravenna, 454 AD. c.

Aetius was one of the last competent generals of the Western Roman Empire, in fact, he was one of the architects of the coalition victory against Attila's Huns in the battle of the Catalaunic Fields, while he held the position of "magister militum".

His diligence earned him praise and popularity, which was to the detriment of Valentinian III. Consequently, when the emperor summoned him to Ravenna, his intention really involved the assassination of the general.

Despite the fact that Aetius defended accusations related to his aspirations to be enthroned, Valentinian was intransigent and assassinated him with his sword. Thus, the Western Empire lost one of the last Romans.
