In 869, Edmund, King of East Anglia and his men faced the invasion of the 'Great Heathen Army'. Captured in battle, the invaders demanded that he submit to them and deny his faith. He refused. He was tortured, bound to a tree and shot full of arrows before being beheaded. He died for England, for his Christian faith.
