All our lives we've been browbeaten by the idea that racism is the worst thing a person can be. And we've been told endlessly that we are the racists. Not because we dislike or discriminate against non-white people, but because we are white and therefore guilty by default. We are colonisers, oppressors, privileged, all because of our skin is white and we must apologise for it and atone for it relentlessly.

We get told we're racist for saying, "All Lives Matter". We get put in prison for printing stickers that say, "It's okay to be white" or for objecting when white girls are stabbed to death or raped by Pakistani Muslims.

And yet, despite this constant guilt shaming and gaslighting, time and time and time again what we see is the opposite—non-whites being violent and racist towards white people all the time.

Henry Nowak died because he was white.
Iryna Zarutska died because she was white.
The grooming gang scandal was a series of racially motivated hate crimes against British children because they were white.

But no matter how many cases, how many injustices, how many innocent white victims, or black or brown perpetrators there are, the narrative never, ever changes. A widespread myth about Islam holds that, while Christendom sank into the “Dark Middle Ages,” science, mathematics, and medicine flourished in Islam. But reality looked different:

- Almost all “Islamic” achievements were accomplished by peoples that Islam had only just subjugated. The “Arabic” numerals, for example, were developed by subjugated Hindus; the famous mathematician Thabit ibn Qurra was a member of the subjugated Sabians; and the first “scientific medical book in the language of Islam” was written by a Syrian Christian in subjugated Alexandria.

- The fact that the Islamic “cultural flourishing” largely vanished after the 14th century was mainly due to the fact that Islam had asserted itself in all conquered countries.

- By contrast, the narrative of the “Dark Middle Ages” is an Enlightenment myth. For example, the architecturally most significant buildings of Western culture, such as churches and cathedrals, were built in the Middle Ages. Only very few of the buildings erected later can compare to the “dark” medieval art of architecture.
