On the night of 25 May 2026, a lion was filmed walking down the R40 between Phalaborwa and Hoedspruit. The footage showed the animal moving calmly along the road like it belonged there, treating the tar as its own walkway.

The sighting wasn’t a surprise to locals. Phalaborwa sits on Kruger National Park’s unfenced western boundary, and lions often move freely between the park and surrounding communities, mines, and villages. This corridor has a history of sightings, with prides also linked to cattle losses near Hoedspruit and Oaks.

A teenage boy was hacked with a machete and suffered critical stab wounds. Despite the efforts of paramedics and London’s Air Ambulance, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Harrow to host major Eid festival with thousands expected at Byron Park organised by 5PIllars Events . The London Eid Fest is set to return to Harrow this summer on Sunday 14 June, with organisers confirming a large community event at Byron Park in Wealdstone. The Harrow event is one of several taking place across the capital. Other locations include Westfield White City at the end of May, Leyton in early June and Osterley Park.
Key details have also been released for the Harrow event. Parking will be available at nearby locations including the Civic Centre and Harrow Leisure Centre, although visitors are being encouraged to use public transport where possible. The nearest station is Harrow & Wealdstone.
All attendees must have a ticket in advance, with no tickets available on the day. Organisers have said entry will be managed through timed slots to help control crowds.
