During the disturbances following the Southall tragedy in 2024, it was suggested that starting fires at hotels containing asylum-seekers was a wicked game played by right-wing agitators. The truth is rather different.

A man who set fire to rooms in two separate hotels where he was staying has been convicted thanks to an investigation by our officers.

Working with the fire service, our officers established there were multiple seats of fire in The Phoenix hotel on 28 March 2025 and then in a room at The Bell Hotel on 5 April.

At the time of the fires, the media went off on the usual "conspiracy theory" that the fabled ffffffar right were responsible.
It was very quickly dropped, and the conviction of a benefits' shopper was hardly reported!
