Farage sold UKIP to the establishment as a cordon sanitaire (as many well placed people have previously attested) after some electoral victories by people to his right. He may have been correct on many issues including Brexit, but - and his supporters may not want to hear it - his whole raison d'être in the limelight (or his Faustian Pact, if you'd prefer) was based upon this approach - as a wall placed between those who sought to defend the right of British people to their homeland and the wider British public. Ensuring certain issues, such as nativism - no matter who voiced them - did not become common cultural currency, as it has in France and elsewhere. Tice is even wetter on those issues.
