Always worth doing this, you save yourself money, usually find nicer copies of works or ones that are too rare to be found online and you make sure what you do spend goes towards some good cause.

A digital equivalent of this is using sites like Abebooks and Alibris which allows you to support small scale and a local businesses.

Undermining the monopoly of places Amazon and supporting independants is always a good thing.
