Supporting the Refugee Convention or principle of asylum is a death wish for Western societies. Take one aspect: homosexuality. There are around 69 countries than ban it. Their populations add up to 1,728,062,958. If, say, 5% are possibly homosexual, that's 86,403,147 who could legitimately claim asylum. Just one factor among countless others, including asylum fraud.

As Conservative MPs go, Sir John Hayes' Common Sense Group is the only entity that appears to have some residual conservative instincts.

The war of words heats up with the French Interior Minister implicitly accusing our government of colluding with people traffickers to create a low wage Black Economy.

Black presenters uncomfortable with a white man describing himself as Jamaican after he has spent his life in Jamaica as a citizen. But clearly would all agree a black person doing the same here is British... Illogical based upon an unwillingness to separate out nationality, indigeneity, ancestral connections or cultural experiences. Africans are also latecomers to Jamaica, the original Indian inhabitants died out or were moved to South American territories after Spanish colonisation.
