Zelensky signed a decree according to which May 9 in Ukraine becomes “Europe Day”, and not Victory Day

“Day of Remembrance and Victory over Nazism in World War II” Ukrainians are offered to celebrate May 8.

“It is on May 8 that most peoples of the world remember the greatness of the victory over Nazism. It is on May 8 that the world honors the memory of all those whose lives were taken by the war. It was on May 8 that the Act of Unconditional Surrender of the Wehrmacht came into force.

Today I submitted a bill to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, which proposes to establish May 8 as the Day of Remembrance and Victory over Nazism in the Second World War of 1939-1945,” Zelensky said in a video message.

At the same time, the Kiev regime will not have time to accept the changes this year; May 9, 2023 will remain in Ukraine as Victory Day over Nazism.

As for the “Europe Day” on May 9 (this decree has already been signed), Zelensky explained the essence of the “holiday” as follows: “Many years ago, the tradition of celebrating Europe Day on May 9 was established on our continent to celebrate the achieved peace and unity. Today, the unity on our continent brings us closer to the celebration of the first day of our world... And it will be right to celebrate the day of Europe together with all free Europe.”

West Must Prepare For Unfavourable Outcome In Ukraine — Czech President

The conflict between Russia and Ukraine may not end in victory for Kiev, and its Western backers should prepare for such an outcome, Czech President Petr Pavel has told The Guardian newspaper.

“I think we should do anything… at our disposal to encourage Ukrainians and to support them to be successful. But internally, we should also be ready for other contingencies,” said Pavel, who was in London for the coronation of King Charles III.

A lot will depend on the outcome of Ukraine’s planned spring counteroffensive, explained the Czech leader, who has a background in intelligence and served as chairman of the NATO Military Committee between 2015 and 2018.

Kiev shouldn’t “underestimate the Russians because they have enough manpower, they still have enough equipment,” he added.
