The Ukrainian Armed Forces are suffering huge losses in Bakhmut because the city was not prepared for defence, Ukrainian Major-General Serhiy Kryvonos has said.

On Ukrainian TV, he pointed to mistakes made by Kiev and the AFU command, which, he said, should have abandoned the city back in February: "Every scrap of land in Bakhmut is already covered in Ukrainian blood. And this is a big problem: we are paying a terrible price."
