SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (AP) — About 20 cars of a Norfolk Southern cargo train derailed near Springfield Saturday evening, the second derailment of the company’s trains in Ohio in a month, officials said.

But unlike the Feb. 3 derailment in East Palestine, Ohio, a company spokesperson said there were no hazardous materials aboard the train, The Columbus Dispatch reported.

The train, which did not have passengers, derailed around 5 p.m. Saturday by State Route 41, near the Clark County Fairgrounds, the Dispatch reported. Springfield is about 46 miles (74 km) west of the state capital of Columbus, Ohio.

The 20 cars of the 212-car train derailed while traveling south, the Norfolk Southern spokesperson said.

Ukraine is set to receive 'double' the number of Challenger 2 tanks than Britain originally promised to send, according to the Ukrainian ambassador to the UK.

Vadym Prystaiko claimed the UK will double the original 14 tanks pledged to aid Ukraine's fight against Russia following Presidnt Zelensky's visit in February.

He alleged as well that Britain will offer 30 heavy guns to the frontline.

The Ministry of Defence said that there are currently no plans to increase the number of tanks over the agreed number of 14 although the defence secretary previously said that Britain was open to extending it.

Rishi Sunak to launch bill to stop people arriving on small boats claiming asylum
Law will also place duty on home secretary to send anyone who arrives in UK on small boat to Rwanda or another third country

Rishi Sunak is to announce new laws stopping people entering the UK on small boats from claiming asylum, with the prime minister saying: “Make no mistake, if you come here illegally, you will not to be able to stay.”

The prime minister and his home secretary will launch the legislation this week, as part of the government’s drive to “tackle illegal migration”, one of its main priorities.

The new law, provisionally called the illegal migration bill, is expected to try to make asylum claims inadmissible from those who travel to the UK on small boats. It would involve a duty being placed on the home secretary to remove “as soon as reasonably practicable”, to Rwanda or a “safe third country”, anyone who arrives on a small boat. Those who arrive will also be prevented from claiming asylum while in the UK, with plans to also ban them from returning once removed.

According to the Mail on Sunday, sources said Attorney General Victoria Prentis warned the Prime Minister that such measures would 'never get through the courts', while Home Office officials are understood to have argued it would break international laws and the UK's commitment to the Refugee Convention.

Enver Solomon, CEO of the Refugee Council, said on Tuesday that the Government's proposed new legislation was inhumane and would leave tens of thousands asylum seekers locked up and treated like criminals.

The Refugee Council added on Twitter today that what Sunak was proposing in The Sun was "unworkable, illogical and unfair".

Sources in the Border Force say that as many as 80,000 could make the dangerous journey in 2023 – up from 45,000 last year.

That is described as 'the upper limit' of expected crossings, with a repeat of the 45,000 figure as the likely 'lower limit'.
