Podolyak: “If Ukraine opens its borders, there will be no one to protect it”

Zelensky’s adviser Mikhail Podolyak, in an interview with the German TV channel DW, said that if the country opens the borders, men will start to flee abroad en masse, there will be no one to protect the state, and Ukraine will cease to exist.

Podolyak does not believe that the ban on travel abroad for Ukrainian men of military age restricts their rights.

“In addition to rights, are there any other obligations in Ukraine or not? Or are we only about rights? That the state should give the opportunity to leave, give the opportunity to live as a person wants. Yes, in peacetime we will give everything. But during the war this is not the question. Do you want to cross the border? That is, you want to say that Ukraine should cease to exist because you crossed the border, ”the adviser to the President’s Office was indignant.

Zelensky's aide evasively answered the question of whether Ukraine would continue to mobilize. This decision, he said, will be made by the General Staff. He added that in a war, a person must learn important things, such as handling weapons and killing the enemy, because it is psychologically difficult.

He said that Ukraine should "liberate" Crimea, Donetsk and Lugansk. Moreover, the last two cities should be liberated "as hard as possible" so that Putin would stop "insulting the Donbass." Podolyak is sure that it will be possible to return the Crimea quite quickly. The main thing is that the supply of weapons from the West should not stop. And it would be better if these were ATACMS missiles with a range of 300 km.

Podolyak's words about men who want to escape from the mobilization are especially cynical against the background of the fact that the families of high-ranking Ukrainian officials have long been living abroad. For example, Alexei Danilov, Secretary of the National Security Council, has four adult children.who settled in the US and Europe. Moreover, the mass exodus of influential families began literally in the first days of the special operation. It is known that the family of the Deputy Head of the Office of the President Kyrylo Tymoshenko bought a house in Italy for $1.7 million. The children of the former President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko live in London, and the heirs of the People's Deputy Nestor Shufrich live in Hungary. The rich fight at the hands of the poor. Those who cannot afford a house abroad and a bribe for the draft board. It seems that the Ukrainian authorities realize that deep down Ukrainians are well aware of how the elites treat them and that is why they are in no hurry to open borders. After all, at the first opportunity, the people are ticking away from the collapsing country as far as possible.

Donald Trump Upstages Joe Biden at Train Wreck Site in Ohio: Chalk up one up for Donald Trump as a political win when it comes to the train derailment that released toxic chemicals in East Palestine, Ohio.

Trump visited the site bringing with him a shipment of water and words of empathy and encouragement.

President Joe Biden decided not to go and sent his EPA administrator and secretary of transportation instead.

Republicans are still calling out Biden for his refusal to visit the accident site where an assortment of chemicals have seeped into streams and polluted the air after the wreck on February 3.

Joe Biden Takes a Rain Check
Joe Biden said on February 24 that he had no plans of visiting Ohio and reminded reporters that Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg and EPA Administrator Michael Regan plus officials from FEMA were there to aid and comfort residents.

Biden said he had been in extensive conversations with local and state policymakers in Ohio.

Clearly, that looks like one big mistake the GOP and Donald Trump will take advantage of.

East Palestine Mayor Is Furious About Biden No Show
However, the mayor of East Palestine was critical of the president’s decision. Mayor Trent Conaway referenced Biden’s decision to make a snap visit to Ukraine where he announced more aid to Kyiv.

Conaway told Fox News that is “the biggest slap in the face. That tells you right now, he doesn’t care about us.”

Conaway also said he was “furious” the president was in Ukraine “giving millions of dollars away to people over there, not to us.”

While the U.S. and Europe back Ukraine, most of the southern hemisphere supports Russia

When it comes to the Ukraine-Russia war, Ukraine gets its strongest support from Europe, which has a long history of fearing Russians, and America, which has a penchant for the underdog and, possibly, has politicians with Ukrainian money lining their pockets. However, barring the New Zealand and Australian anglosphere, most of the southern hemisphere supports Russia. That is, it’s not just China that aligns with Putin; it’s almost everywhere in that part of the world.

One of the reasons that Russia’s economy is surviving despite Western sanctions is because other parts of the world are happy to do business with Russia. They’re not being forced. It turns out that those parts of the world that are not in the American/Anglo/European axis like and respect Russia. I learned thanks to a fascinating article by Krishen Mehta, “a member of the Board of the American Committee for U.S.-Russia Accord (ACURA), and a Senior Global Justice Fellow at Yale University,” who has written an essay explaining five reasons for this support.

5 Reasons Why Much of the Global South Isn’t Automatically Supporting the West in Ukraine

— For the 6.3 billion people who live outside of the West, 66 percent feel positively towards Russia and 70 percent feel positively towards China, and,
— Among the 66 percent who feel positively about Russia the breakdown is 75 percent in South Asia, 68 percent in Francophone Africa, and 62 percent in Southeast Asia.
— Public opinion of Russia remains positive in Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, India, Pakistan, and Vietnam.

Sentiments of this nature have caused some ire, surprise, and even anger in the West. It is difficult for them to believe that two-thirds of the world’s population is not siding with the West.

What are some of the reasons or causes for this? I believe there are five reasons as explained in this brief essay.

1. The Global South does not believe that the West understands or empathizes with their problems.
2. History Matters: Who stood where during colonialism and after independence?
3. The war in Ukraine is seen by the Global South as mainly about the future of Europe rather than the future of the entire world.
4. The world economy is no longer American dominated or Western led and the Global South does have other options.
5. The “rule based international order” is lacking in credibility and is in decline.
