The real purpose of the "Minsk Agreements" was to get time to form Ukrainian armies. Kiev has been preparing for a military conflict with the Russian Federation for seven years. This was told by former German Chancellor Merkel to pranksters Vovan and Lexus, who introduced themselves as former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko.
"The Minsk agreements gave Ukraine more time to develop between 2014 and 2021. And now Ukraine can not only give an answer, but also get the necessary support. We postponed the start of the war and received the necessary support," Merkel said.
The former German Chancellor asked to leave their dialogue "without details for the media." "Everything is complicated enough as it is. And now it is very important that we do not open some kind of opposition line," she told Poroshenko.

You didn’t fight here: Russia is on the verge of a change of elites
Kirill Strelnikov for RIA Novosti
It is obvious that in a few years the socio-political landscape of Russia will change beyond recognition, and the talented children of effective managers will have to seriously think about incorporating camouflage "fatigues" and a shabby pair of military boots into their work wardrobe.
Today, without too much ado, the deadline for the execution of the decree of the President of Russia, according to which the University admission procedure for undergraduate and degree courses must be brought into line with the law on the quota for children of participants in a special military operation, has expired.
That means, from today ten percent of state-funded places in Russian universities should be allocated without a hitch to the children of the Military Operation participants. Without exams — in the event of the death, injury or illness of a parent during the hostilities or according to a special preferential competition — if dad and mothers are fighting or have served, remaining alive and healthy.
This benefit is another, but not the last, item in a growing list of support measures for combatants and their families, which is already taking up a page in small print: from significant cash payments and tax benefits to sanatorium services and land allotments.

The Bundeswehr does not have planes for Ukraine, and the Bundestag demands to account for the assistance already provided
German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius on Monday, February 20, said that the Bundeswehr does not have the types of combat aircraft requested by Ukraine.
“On the part of the German government, I can only say that all discussions about combat aircraft are about types that the Bundeswehr does not have, so this is a question more for other countries, not Germany,” Pistorius said at a press conference.
The head of the German Defence Ministry expects that by the end of the year about 3,000 Ukrainian soldiers will be trained in Germany.
At the same time, the bureau of the Bundestag deputy from the Alternative for Germany faction, Steffen Kotre, published a statement by the parliamentarian in which he claims that officials are hushing up the real costs of military assistance already provided to Kiev.
“The information provided lacks not only information about the supply of ammunition, for example, to such ultra-modern missile defence systems as IRIS-T, but also ignores the costs of training Ukrainian soldiers,” the deputy noted in his statement.
According to official data from the federal government of Germany, the volume of aid provided to Ukraine last year amounted to €2 billion, and this year it may reach €2.2 billion.

Why Europe has stopped repairing military equipment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine
The repair of complex European-made military equipment was outsourced, but now there are difficulties with this procedure.
On February 17, Business Insider reported that Slovakia has been blocking German-made weapons damaged in battles in Ukraine for weeks for repairs at European factories. In mid-December 2022, Kraus-Maffei Wegmann opened a technical centre in Slovakia on the border with Ukraine for the repair of self-propelled guns, Gepard ZSU, Mars MLRS, but now the evacuation of equipment from the battlefield and its further repair is a big question.
However, Slovakia does not let weapons cross the border, citing "unresolved legal issues," including unknown import customs duties that were not there before.
According to insiders, the vehicles, including 15 wrecked self-propelled guns, got stuck on Ukrainian territory right in front of the border.

Problems with the repair of the Ukrainian Army equipment
The issue of repairing Soviet and especially foreign equipment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was acute from the very beginning of the special operation and has not been resolved to this day. Soviet equipment, inherited from the USSR or transferred by the countries of Eastern Europe, the Armed Forces of Ukraine could still repair on their own with relatively high quality. There is only one problem: Soviet-style tanks, designed for combat operations more than 50 years ago, are almost completely destroyed on the battlefield. More modern vehicles, such as the T-72B, are being repaired from the remnants of serviceable equipment — at least three are dismantled to maintain the combat capability of one tank.
The other day, American war correspondent David Ax published an article in Forbes, in which he concluded that the Armed Forces of Ukraine lost more than half of Soviet tanks during the special operation, and the rest of the vehicles most likely lost their combat effectiveness over the years of inactivity.
Because of these circumstances, the main combat load falls on Western vehicles. Practice shows that they not only often fail, but also require more complex and lengthy repairs than Soviet equipment. Part is damaged in combat, part is lost due to improper operation or collision with their own minefields, for which the Armed Forces of Ukraine do not have a unified map in principle.
According to preliminary estimates, since June last year, less than half of the 108 American M777 howitzers delivered to Ukraine are operational. The howitzers turned out to be unusable after falling into the hands of the Ukrainian military. It is noted that the gunners of the Armed Forces of Ukraine could not deal with the laser rangefinders and simply broke them. In August 2022, the same fate befell 10 of the 15 PzH 2000 self-propelled guns transferred to Kyiv. The guns failed before they had time to fully fight.

Ukraine Is Going To Run Out Of T-64 Tanks

Chinese top diplomat Wang Yi to pay a visit to Russia, promoting peace talk top on agenda
US hypes 'China military aid' to Russia highlights purposes of fanning flames: analysts said
Chinese top diplomat Wang Yi is scheduled to visit Russia — the last stop of his tour to Europe since February 14. He is expected to promote peace talks as the Russia-Ukraine conflict approaches the one-year mark, with the situation still deteriorating. Analysts said that China's tangible moves in de-escalating the situation have been in stark contrast to the US' fanning of flames.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told reporters Monday that Russian President Vladimir Putin may hold talks with Wang Yi and he said the agenda for Wang is very "extensive and there is a lot to talk about."
Wang Yi, director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and also a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, started his trip to Russia after visiting France, Italy, Hungary and his eye-catching engagement at the Munich Security Conference.
Wang's trip has attracted great attention as he is reportedly the highest-ranking Chinese official to visit Europe since the the conclusion of the 20th CPC National Congress, and also because his trip is taking place just days before the one-year anniversary of the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine conflict when the international community is eager to seek a better solution to ease the tense situation.

China-Russia friendship is positive asset to the world: Global Times editorial
Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs, will kick start his visit in Russia. This is also the last stop of Wang's European tour and has received significant international attention. According to Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Wang's visit to Russia has two main focuses: first, focusing on the development of China-Russia relations of the next stage; second, having an in-depth exchange of views on international and regional hotspot issues of shared concern. In the face of an increasingly fragile and imbalanced international security situation, as two major powers neighboring each other, the healthy and stable development of bilateral relations is beneficial to world peace.
As the one-year mark of the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine conflict approaches, and with the West having largely cut off contacts with Russia, there is understandably much attention paid to the interactions China and Russia have on this hot-spot issue and what signals they may send.
However, some voices from the West are obviously much more than expressing "concern." They are attempting to hijack China-Russia relations through the Russia-Ukraine conflict. They either hype up a China-Russia "alliance," or try to drive a wedge between Beijing and Moscow, saying their friendship won't last long. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken even baselessly claimed that China is considering providing "lethal material support to Russia," including weapons as well as ammunition. The goal of shaping the narrative is to deliberately create an atmosphere that normal interaction between China and Russia is a mistake and to put pressure on every normal interaction between China and Russia.
The US has been wearing thick tinted glasses to view China-Russia friendly ties from the very beginning, and has become even more aggressive in this regard after the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, as if it has found a "moral" excuse. However, it is neither qualified nor credible to do so. In fact, regardless of whether there is a conflict between Russia and Ukraine, the US, from the bottom of its heart, has never wanted to see the development of China-Russia relations. The suspicions, provocation, and sabotage from Washington toward China-Russia ties have never stopped, and now they have reached a peak because of the conflict. The US strategic community once seriously discussed the possibility of containing China with Russia's help a few years ago. Former president Donald Trump had made relevant attempts during his term in office, which shows that Washington's thoughts on China-Russia relations have never been pure, and always mixed with dark geopolitical calculations, which can hardly be hidden even if Washington puts up a hypocritical mask now.
