Vladimir Putin: "I have asked the Ministry of Defense to be attentive to all civilian initiatives. That includes taking into account criticism and correctly in a timely manner to respond to it. It is clear that people reacts to the problems, and problems always appear in such a large and complex work. Such a reaction can be emotional but we need to hear those who do not hush up existing problems but seek to contribute to their solution. I am sure that the Ministry of Defense will be in constant dialogue with people. The unity of the army and the people has always been our strength. So it is today."

What Zelenskyy wants โ but is unlikely to get โ from Biden
Both Biden and Zelenskyy want to solidify support for Ukraine with the incoming U.S. Congress, though they have slightly different goals.
From POLITICO
...
โHe needs longer-range weapons to enable him to preempt an expected Russian offensive,โ said Bill Taylor, the former U.S. ambassador to Ukraine. โHe needs immediate financial support to keep his government running, and he knows that Congress will make decisions on these items this week.โ
...
While the Biden administration has vowed to continue supporting Kyiv in its efforts to combat Russian forces inside Ukraine, U.S. officials have resisted supplying any resources that would allow Ukrainians to launch long-range missiles at Russian positions inside Russia โ weapons Ukrainians say are critical for allowing them to gain back lost territory and force Russia on the defensive.
โFor us the strategy is to continue attacking because we cannot afford to freeze the frontline. We need to constantly press,โ said Oleksandr Danylyuk, Ukraineโs former national security adviser, who has continued to advise on military planning. โWe have reached the limit of what we can do with the advanced weapons the U.S. has already provided. For the next stage, we need the longer-range weapons to achieve [our] goals.โ
...
The shipment of the Patriot is a decision that surprised even Ukrainian officials.
...
Though publicly downplaying their concerns, White House aides have grown worried about the impact of the impending Republican takeover of Congress on funding to Kyiv. Kevin McCarthy, the possible next House Speaker, has vowed to no longer give Ukraine โa blank check.โ And several influential far right Republicans โ including Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene (Ga.) and Lauren Boebert (Colo.) โ have vowed to stop Washingtonโs assistance.

"The greatest scam": Nikita Mikhalkov - about American assistance to Kiev
Director Nikita Mikhalkov spoke about how the US is cashing in on its own military assistance to Ukraine.
"This is indescribably beneficial to the US military-industrial complex. This is the greatest scam! Biden says that the largest $3 billion package to help Ukraine is being allocated. Huge money! But how is it allocated? This is $3 billion that will remain in America, but which will fall like a heavy yoke on Ukraine, driving it not just into a debt hole, but into a debt abyss," he said.
As a result, according to Mikhalkov, weapons are made for 3 billion, for which Ukraine will then pay.
โTo fight Russia with someone elseโs hands, being on the sidelines and even earning money by lending money that is spent at home. My hat's off ! And all together this is called โdefending democracy,โ says the director.

Whether, when and how the war in Ukraine will end
By Harlan Ullman for The Hill
...
Some in the Pentagon who do not wish attribution characterize the war as โBig Russia versus Little Russia,โ meaning that Ukraine is unlikely to prevail over a larger and more powerful Russia if the fighting continues for the long term.
The U.S. strategy, accepted de facto by NATO and the European Union, is to supply Ukraine with military and non-military aid sufficient for defense and survival but not necessarily enough to drive Russia from all or much of the territories it controls in Crimea and Donbas or to provoke an escalation by Moscow. While the possible transfer of a Patriot missile battery to Ukraine is a strong political signal, the tactical impact may be minimal. And if the Biden administration has an exit strategy, it is keeping it close hold.
Ukraine and its president, Volodymyr Zelensky, seem to have been given the authority to dictate terms for ending the war. But at some stage the U.S. will act in its own interests, possibly as the Trump administration did in negotiating withdrawal from Afghanistan with the Taliban and not the Afghan government. And while the U.S. and NATO are in firm agreement in supporting Ukraine, will that cohesion persist if the war continues indefinitely?

Russia and Iran Are Building a Trade Route That Defies Sanctions
The nations are investing upwards of $20 billion to ease passage of goods along waterways and railways
Story by Jonathan Tirone and Golnar Motevalli for the Businessweek
Russia and Iran are building a new transcontinental trade route stretching from the eastern edge of Europe to the Indian Ocean, a 3,000 kilometer (1,860 mile) passage thatโs beyond the reach of any foreign intervention.
The two countries are spending billions of dollars to speed up delivery of cargos along rivers and railways linked by the Caspian Sea. Ship-tracking data compiled by Bloomberg show dozens of Russian and Iranian vessels โ including some that are subject to sanctions are already plying the route.
Itโs an example of how great power competition is rapidly reshaping trade networks in a world economy that looks set to fragment into rival blocs. Russia and Iran, under tremendous pressure from sanctions, are turning toward each other โ and theyโre both looking eastward, too. The goal is to shield commercial links from Western interference and build new ones with the giant and fast-growing economies of Asia.
...
Earlier this month, listing his countryโs gains from the war in Ukraine, President Vladimir Putin said the Sea of Azov โhas become an inland seaโ for Russia.
From there river, sea and rail networks extend to Iranian hubs on the Caspian Sea and ultimately the Indian Ocean. Putin has flagged the importance of that end of the corridor, as well.

Russia and Iran Are Building a Trade Route That Defies Sanctions
The US and its allies are alarmed by the growing Iranian-Russian connection, which includes transfers of military supplies next to trade of agricultural and energy commodities.
