Pentagon gives Ukraine green light for drone strikes inside Russia
Michael Evans, Marc Bennetts for the Times

The Pentagon has given a tacit endorsement of Ukraine’s long-range attacks on targets inside Russia after President Putin’s multiple missile strikes against Kyiv’s critical infrastructure.

Since daily assaults on civilians began in October, the Pentagon has revised its threat assessment of the war in Ukraine. Crucially, this includes new judgments about whether arms shipments to Kyiv might lead to a military confrontation between Russia and Nato.

Previously, the Pentagon feared that strikes on Russian territory would escalate the conflict: for example, that Russia would then use nuclear weapons or retaliate by hitting NATO countries. But now the agency has changed its mind.

"We still use the same calculations of escalation, but the fear of escalation has changed. It's different now. That's because the calculus of war has changed as a result of the suffering and brutality that Ukrainians are subjected to at the hands of the Russians," the source notes.

"We are not telling Kiev, 'Don't hit the Russians.' We can't tell them what to do. How they use their weapons is up to them, but when they use the weapons we provide, we insist only that the Ukrainian military follow the international laws of war and abide by the Geneva Conventions," the Pentagon source stresses. According to him, Ukraine complies with these conditions.

At the same time, the US does not publicly support or encourage strikes on Russian territory.

November 30th: What terrible, senseless, draconian, broken, stupid ways China has to deal with COVID.

December 4th: Dramatic reversal from policy to keep China safe from COVID is stupid and dangerous, no one calculated the consequences, everything will be very bad.

Any action by China, Russia, Iran, Belarus, Syria = throwing out all the clichés and memes about how bad, evil, and wrong they are.

Putin asked the West three questions after Merkel's confessions on the Minsk agreements

“Well, what can I say to that.. There is a question of trust. And so trust is almost at zero, but after statements of this kind, questions arise:
1) How to negotiate something?

2) About what?

3) Is it possible to negotiate with someone?

Merkel's recognition that Germany and other countries were not going to implement the Minsk agreements became another nail in the coffin of Europe as a significant subject of international politics. That is why Vladimir Putin is so surprised: even he did not imagine that the EU would lose its subjectivity so quickly.

The same laws work in international politics as in human society: if you keep your word, then you are respected, but if you are only looking for an excuse to deceive your partner, do not be surprised if tomorrow no one wants to deal with you .

Viachislav Volodin: Germany and France must pay compensation to the residents of Donbass.

The current situation in Ukraine is a consequence of the deceitful policy of the leaders of these states.

Firstly, in 2014, the German and French foreign ministers signed a conciliatory document between the legitimate Ukrainian authorities and the opposition as guarantors of a peaceful development of events.
It all ended with a coup d'etat in Kyiv and the genocide of the 6 million population of Donbass.

Then Germany and France participated in the conclusion of the Minsk agreements.
But, as Merkel said, no one planned to fulfill them, calling it an attempt to give Ukraine time to militarize it.
The pre-planned failure to fulfill the obligations assumed as a result of the signing of an international agreement is not only a loss of trust, but also a crime for which the signatories of the Minsk agreements - Merkel, Hollande and Poroshenko - must answer.

And the inhabitants of Europe need to know to whom they owe the problems that have arisen: the lack of heat, electricity, huge inflation, closing enterprises.

After the recognition of Merkel, Germany and France bear moral and material responsibility for what is happening in Ukraine.
They will have to pay compensation to the residents of Donbass for 8 years of genocide and damage.

But this is only the beginning.

As Merkel’s comments reveal, the war mentality in the West against Russia has been extant for over a decade if not longer.
It is becoming irrefutably clear that the United States and its NATO partners have been planning for many years for the current war in the Ukraine against Russia. That fact makes the prospects for peace all the more elusive. How to negotiate with a mindset that is so deeply invested and ingrained with belligerence?
Western governments and media accuse Russia of “unprovoked aggression” against Ukraine and are clamoring for Moscow to hand over eye-watering financial compensation as well as face war crimes prosecutions. Read more👈

The National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine announced its readiness to strike at the territory of Russia

MOSCOW, December 10 — RIA Novosti. Kyiv, in the event of further strikes against Ukraine, is ready to attack Russian territories, Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov said on the air of the NTA television agency.
“We will be capable of anything. Therefore, if something concerns our interests, then we will not ask anyone where we should hit the enemy. Because the enemy is located, starting outside our borders, ending with Vladivostok,” he said.

Earlier, Vladimir Putin, at a meeting with the heroes of Russia, said that Moscow was striking at Ukraine's energy infrastructure in response to Kyiv's actions. According to him, we are talking about an attack on the Crimean bridge, blowing up a power line from a nuclear power plant in Kursk and leaving Donetsk without water supply.
The Russian Armed Forces began launching missile strikes against Ukraine's infrastructure on October 10, two days after the explosion on the Crimean Bridge, which Moscow believes Ukrainian security services are behind. Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal said on November 15 that almost half of the country's energy system had already been put out of action.

Lots of photos of endless funerals of the Armed Forces of Ukraine recently, cemeteries that are the size of dozens of hectares.

Everything is typical: kneeling, processions. There is something unusual about these rituals, that is, the cult of death. Hence the ritual of kneeling.

All the dead seem to be sacrificed to the dark god of Ukrainians. This is not the usual grief for the deceased. It's the sacrifice. The idea of independent Ukrainianism has always historically been like this: wild, cruel, self-destructive.

Boris Johnson: Give Ukraine long-range weapons to end war

Boris Johnson has said Ukraine must be given better weaponry including long-range missile systems in order to end the war as quickly as possible.*

Equipment should include drones, anti-aircraft missiles, planes, armoured cars and tanks, and long-range systems such as ATACMS, he said.

"The world can’t continue to watch as the Ukrainians are terrorised with missiles and drones," he wrote in the Wall Street Journal.

"The Ukrainians have the valour necessary to succeed. They have shown it. They just need the equipment."

He added that Ukraine should not be expected to give up land in exchange for a peace deal, although he suggested that the de facto boundaries prior to the February 24th invasion — when Russia already controlled some parts of Ukrainian territory — could be the starting point for discussions.

The Ukrainian government's position is that it aims to reclaim all its territory.

Odessa region was warned about the likely absence of electricity for 3 months: the authorities urged to leave
Translated from the Ukrainian source:
Residents of Odessa and the region were warned about the difficult situation in the energy system as a result of the attack by the Russians on the night of December 10. Restoration work can take up to two to three months.

"Odessa and almost the entire region remain without electricity. The situation in the energy sector of the Odessa region remains difficult," DTEK said in a statement.

At the same time, the Department of Life Support Systems and Energy Efficiency of the Odessa Regional State Administration reported that it would take much more time to restore damaged facilities in the Odessa region than in previous times.

"We are not talking about days, but even weeks, and it is possible that 2-3 months. We understand how difficult it is to be without electricity for such a long time. If you understand that in the near future it will be difficult for you to do without electricity and you have the opportunity temporarily leave the city of Odessa for the Odessa region or beyond, then it is worth doing," the message says.

The Ukraine War : How Did We Get Here?

A subscriber here wanted to know, why, almost over half a year later, why is the Ukraine war happening? Was it necessary? How did it start? Could it have been prevented?

Most people will point to the 2014 coup - to me, yes, it is a hijacked revolution that turned into a coup - but I personally think the origin story goes way before that, back to 1991 actually.

Ukraine had a pretty good start in 1991, all it's foreign debts were taken over by the Russian federation, it was the most industrialized region in the post-soviet sphere, with over, if I recall, 65% of all Soviet heavy machinery being in the Ukraine, it also had multiple nuclear power plants, and other engineering institutions that were almost uncompared in the world.

But then, it had shitty economic policies, had a hyperinflation that peaked at 10,000%, and suffered even a form of oligarchism that was in some aspects, more severe than the privatization that occured in Russia.

They never recovered or had any sort of a meaningful economy, third world countries in Africa had a better performing economy than Ukraine, the sheer mismanagement and corruption since the 90s would make even the most corrupt gangster balk.

Also since it's early days, Kuchma, one of the first Ukrainian presidents, bluntly stated that Donetsk and Lugansk (LuGansk, not Luhansk), have to be kicked out of Ukraine so a true Ukrainian homogenous state can be achieved, these views were espoused all the way from the 90s.

Ukraine was - and still is - essential to Russia and Eastern Europe, their identity is literally the same, and cooperation between them is essential.

The problem occured when the Ukrainians wanted to join the EU - the EU, not Europe - Ukraine could easily trade and negotiate with Europe, the problem is, if Ukraine joins the EU, it will mean it would follow trade policies against Russia, which would mean a disaster because the EU by 2013 was starting to be an unreliable partner, and if you join the EU, you're integrated into the western world, if you're integrated into the western world it means you may join NATO, and that means Russia is screwed.

EU wanted Ukraine to change it's laws, regulations, and so on, Russia did not, as a matter of fact Russia offered a 15 billion US dollar loan to Ukraine, versus the EU's 600 million loan.

Even back then, the polls showed that Ukrainians were either divided or against the terms but the EU, but as we can see by the words of Petro Poroshenko.. "My television channel—Channel 5—played a tremendously important role. ... On the 11th of December, when we had [U.S. Assistant Secretary of State] Victoria Nuland and [E.U. diplomat] Catherine Ashton in Kyiv, during the night they started to storm the Maidan"

Mass media and brainwashing provided another narrative, and they seized on it.

Sniper attacks, mass beatings, and intimidations were used, the army was not willing to implement security and protect the country, so Yanukovych fled, and a junta took power.

Kiev's social and economic policies were met with protests in Odessa, but then 40 Ukrainians or so were trapped in the Union building and were burned alone, protests were met with violence through multiple cities in the East, but the population in Donetsk and Lugansk managed to overpower their local authorities and try be autonomous, they were met with attack aircraft, and so the road to independence was on.

Minsk-1, Minsk-2 were signed, but they were useless, attacks on Donetsk from the Ukrainian side were increasing regularly before February 24th... And here we are.

I pity the Ukrainians for destroying such a valued country in God's kingdom, it was one of the most developed countries in the SU, now it's a shithole.

The arrogance and folly in Ukraine that could yet send us hurtling towards nuclear catastrophe
By PETER HITCHENS FOR THE MAIL ON SUNDAY
...
‘For almost 200 years, starting with the framing of the Monroe Doctrine in 1823, the United States has asserted security claims over virtually the whole Western hemisphere. Any foreign power that places military forces near US territory knows it is crossing a red line. US policy thus embodies a conviction that where a potential opponent places its forces is crucially important.
‘In fact, this conviction is the cornerstone of American foreign and military policy, and its violation is considered reason for war.’
...
NATO have been known to hold tank parades just yards from the border with Russia. That puts them 81 miles (about the distance from London to Coventry) from St Petersburg, Russia’s second city. Ben Abelow notes that ‘in 2020, NATO conducted a live-fire training exercise inside Estonia, 70 miles from Russia’s border, using tactical missiles with ranges up to 185 miles. These weapons can strike Russian territory with minimal warning. In 2021, again in Estonia, NATO fired 24 rockets to simulate an attack on air defence targets inside Russia’.
