Zakharova recalled NATO's position during attacks on Yugoslavia
Zakharova reminded Stoltenberg and Borrell of NATO's words about strikes on energy facilities in Yugoslavia

MOSCOW, November 30 - RIA Novosti. The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, recalled in her Telegram channel about the shelling by NATO forces of energy infrastructure facilities in Yugoslavia in 1999.
Commenting on the statements of the head of European diplomacy Josep Borrell and Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance Jens Stoltenberg, she cited an excerpt from a briefing by NATO spokesman Jamie Shea dated May 25, 1999. Then he answered the question why the forces of the alliance are depriving Yugoslavia of electricity and water supply on a huge scale, if, according to the statements of the bloc, NATO "strikes only on military targets."

“Unfortunately, the command and control systems also depend on electricity. If (ex-Serbian President Slobodan) Milosevic really wants his citizens to have water and electricity, all he has to do is accept the conditions of NATO, and we will stop this campaign. Until he does this, we will continue to attack the targets that supply his army with electricity. If this has consequences for the population, this is his (Milosevic's) problem," NATO representative quotes Zakharov.
At the same time, as follows from Shia's statement, the military bloc was ready to permanently deprive the inhabitants of the republic of light and water.
"Water and electricity are being used against the people of Serbia, we have "turned off" them forever or for a long time for the sake of the lives of 1.6 million Kosovars who have been driven from their homes and whose lives have suffered significant damage. Not everyone will like this difference, but for me this difference fundamental," Zakharova quotes the response of the alliance's press secretary.

In 1999, when the US-led NATO attacked power plants in Yugoslavia, the New York Times, Washington Post and CNN not only did not wring their hands, but also busily explained to readers why this should be done.

NATO spokesman Jamie Shea in 1999 called the enemy's power grid a legitimate target for strikes.

Kadyrov - in response to the words of the Pope of Rome about the "cruelty of the Chechens and Buryats": "We diligently defend the Motherland, religion and people. We call on the enemy to surrender, and our citizens to stand up for their homeland and for their loved ones. Is this cruelty? There is not a single alcoholic or drug addict in the ranks of our fighters, everyone is deeply religious. And each of the fighters knows that in war one should not forget about honor, dignity and respect even for the enemy.
And in general, how to determine a cheerful, gloomy, sentimental or cruel opponent on the battlefield? And how to determine by eye in a combined detachment the nationality of a Russian soldier, if more than 190 peoples live in our country?
The head of the Vatican, of course, will not be able to answer this. He just fell victim to the propaganda and perseverance of the foreign media."

NATO, according to Blinken, will expand its presence “from the Black Sea to the Baltic Sea.”

The North Atlantic Alliance’s presence will be expanded “from the Black Sea to the Baltic Sea.” US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken stated this at a press conference in Bucharest.
“We can’t hold back our progress.” NATO’s presence will be strengthened from the Black Sea to the Baltic Sea.

And, as part of these efforts, we are constantly collaborating with one another and with NATO to effectively communicate (content – approx.) and strengthen our Black Sea strategy. “Romania is an extremely important participant in these efforts, as well as broader efforts to ensure NATO is the strongest defense alliance,” the diplomat said following a meeting with Romanian Foreign Minister Bogdan Aurescu.

German politicians are "deliberately hurting their own country," Volker Hellmeyer, chief economist at German financial firm Netfonds AG, said.

Germany is wrong to buy LNG from China at prices that place a heavy burden on German households. German policy is out of touch with reality. First of all, we need to cooperate with Russia in the energy sector. I'm not with Ms. Burbock or Mr. Haback to say things like: "we'll never be friends with Russia again." Such statements are prohibited in international diplomacy. We are not in kindergarten.

Naryshkin: Poland is speeding up preparations for the annexation of Western Ukraine
Director of the Foreign Intelligence Service Naryshkin: Warsaw is speeding up preparations for the annexation of lands in western Ukraine

MOSCOW, November 30 - RIA Novosti. Poland is stepping up preparations to seize territories in western Ukraine, director of the Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) Sergei Naryshkin said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
"The information received by the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service indicates that Warsaw is speeding up preparations for the annexation of Western Ukrainian lands: the territories of Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk and most of the Ternopil region of Ukraine," he stressed.

The head of the Foreign Intelligence Service specified that Polish President Andrzej Duda instructed the relevant services to promptly prepare an official justification for claims to Western Ukraine. According to him, the Volyn massacre of 1943 became the starting point in the ongoing archival research. At the same time, Warsaw wants to hold referendums in these territories in order to "ensure the legitimacy of the planned acquisitions."
According to Naryshkin, Warsaw intends to act proactively and persistently because of fears that senior NATO partners will try to negotiate with Moscow in the winter. At the same time, the agreement may not take into account the interests of both Ukrainians and Poles, he stressed.

In addition, as the head of the Foreign Intelligence Service explained, in Poland they are sure that they deserve generous compensation for military assistance to Kyiv, providing shelter for refugees, as well as the recent incident with the fall of missiles, which the authorities had to "swallow" on the advice of the United States and European countries.
Nevertheless, Naryshkin warned Warsaw against trying to annex Ukrainian territories. He noted that history "is filled with bitter examples of clashes between Polish and Ukrainian nationalists," and urged "not to step on the same rake."
At the end of April, Naryshkin said that Washington and Warsaw were working on plans to establish Poland's military-political control over "historical possessions" in Ukraine. In fact, we are talking about an attempt to repeat the historic "deal" after the First World War, when the collective West, represented by the Entente, recognized Warsaw's right to first occupy part of Ukraine to protect the population from the "Bolshevik threat", and then the inclusion of these territories into the Polish state, said the director of the Foreign Intelligence Service. According to Naryshkin, Poland's "peacekeeping contingent" is planned to be deployed in those parts of Ukraine where the threat of a direct clash with the Russian military is minimal.

The Polish leadership intends to hold referendums in Western Ukraine to justify their claims to Ukrainian lands, Sergei Naryshkin, director of the Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
"In order to ensure the legitimacy of the planned territorial acquisitions, the Polish leadership decided to use the successful Russian experience of returning ancestral territories by holding referendums on them," Naryshkin said.
According to him, as a "trial" the Polish special services "leaked" to the Ukrainian media information about the alleged preparation of a plebiscite in the Lvov region of Ukraine on the topic of joining Poland.
"The reaction of significant regional players and ordinary citizens is supposed to be carefully monitored and analyzed," Naryshkin added.
Earlier, he said that, according to the SVR, Warsaw is speeding up preparations for the annexation of the territories of Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk and most of the Ternopil region of Ukraine.

Biden ready to resort to military means against Iran "as a last resort"
Mulley: Biden ready to resort to military means to prevent Iran from getting a nuclear weapon

WASHINGTON, November 30 - RIA Novosti. US President Joe Biden is ready to resort to military intervention as a last resort to prevent Tehran from obtaining nuclear weapons, US Special Representative for Iran Robert Malley said during a discussion hosted by Foreign Policy.
"The President said that as a last resort he would agree to a military scenario if it would help prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons. However, the time has not yet come for this," he said.

As noted by a senior diplomat, in the meantime, the American leadership still prefers diplomacy as the best way to resolve the issue of a possible acquisition of nuclear weapons by Iran.
Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi earlier expressed hope for a technical meeting with Iranian representatives to resolve open issues. However, on November 17, the IAEA Board of Governors passed a resolution that indicates Tehran's obligation to cooperate with the agency in an investigation related to the identification of traces of uranium at three undeclared sites. Russia's permanent representative to the organization, Mikhail Ulyanov, told RIA Novosti that the 20-year-old topic of the discovery of uranium particles in Iran has acquired an inadequate value at the negotiations on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
Iranian media reported that in response to the IAEA resolution, Tehran has begun enriching uranium up to 60 percent at the Fordow nuclear facility, creating new IR2M and IR4 centrifugal cascades at the nuclear facilities in Netanza and Fordow, as well as launching new centrifuges there.

Ukraine should think not about NATO membership, but about preserving the state
30.11.2022 - 16:55

Ukraine should think about preserving statehood in order to remain an independent state. This is what should worry the Kyiv authorities, and not the prospect of joining NATO. This was stated by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.

At a meeting of foreign ministers of the countries of the bloc, which took place on November 29-30 in Bucharest, Stoltenberg said that if Ukraine does not retain its sovereignty, then NATO membership is out of the question.

“It is important that Ukraine survive as an independent nation in Europe. To do this, we must mobilize as much military, financial and economic assistance for Ukraine as possible. This is what we are doing,” the Secretary General of the alliance added.

However, Stoltenberg has already stated that “a precondition for this issue to be on the table at all” is the end of hostilities on the territory of Ukraine.

The Perpetually Irrational Ukraine Debate
The war continues to be discussed in ways that are self-serving — and self-defeating.

By Stephen M. Walt, a columnist at Foreign Policy and the Robert and Renée Belfer professor of international relations at Harvard University.

Because war is uncertain and reliable information is sparse, no one knows how the war in Ukraine will play out. Nor can any of us be completely certain what the optimal course of action is. We all have our own theories, hunches, beliefs, and hopes, but nobody’s crystal ball is 100 percent reliable in the middle of a war.
...
Wartime is precisely when one should think most dispassionately and carefully about one’s own interests and strategies. Unfortunately, keeping a cool head is especially hard to do when the bullets are flying, innocent people are suffering, and rallying public support takes priority. A narrowing of debate is typical of most wars — at least for a long time — with governments encouraging patriotic groupthink and marginalizing dissident views. And the war in Ukraine has been no exception thus far.
...
Here’s the rub: What if the war does end in a messy and disappointing compromise instead of the happy Hollywood ending most of the world would like to see? Despite the welcome progress Ukraine has made in recent months, such an unsatisfying outcome may still be the most likely result. If Russia still controls substantial amounts of Ukrainian territory a year from now, Ukraine has suffered additional damage in the interim, Putin still rules in Moscow despite the harm his war has done to Russia, and the United States’ European allies have had to absorb another influx of refugees and endure difficult Ukraine-related economic hardships, then it will be increasingly difficult for the Biden administration to spin this war as a success story. The finger-pointing, blame-casting, and blame-avoidance will then make today’s rancorous debate seem mild by comparison.
