Republicans are questioning President Biden's request for Congress to approve nearly $12 billion in additional aid to Ukraine this month over concerns the timing is meant to benefit Democrats ahead of the November midterm elections. 

GOP lawmakers worry the White House is pushing the aid package because they know a portion of Republicans will vote against it without proper accountability metrics in place for how the money will be spent. Such opposition, they say, will then be used to unfairly smear all Republicans as isolationists or lackeys of Russian President Vladimir Putin on the campaign trail. 

"This newest call from President Biden is simply a superficial midterm election gimmick that will only damage our country in both the short and long term," said Rep. Andy Biggs, R-Ariz.

Usually in that situation it is appropriate to say: “The Queen is Dead. Long Live the King!”

📃🔥The ring of Nazi troops around Leningrad closed on September 8, 1941.
According to the Fuhrer's plan, after the capture of Leningrad, this city "must cease to exist"
The blockade has lasted a terrible 872 days - until January 27, 1944.
About 1 million people died, including more than 600 thousand because of hunger.

📃🔥 Donbass operation began on August 13, 1943 with the offensive of the South-Western Front troops of the Soviet army. They crossed the Seversky Donets and advanced along the right bank of the river. On August 16, the troops of the Southern Front broke through the German defenses, and already on August 18, the battle for Saur-Mogila began.

On September 1, German troops began to retreat along the entire front in the Donbass. On September 8, the Red Army liberated the regional center - Stalino. By the evening of September 14, 1943, the entire territory of the Donetsk region was liberated from the Nazi invaders.

Inauguration of restored Saur-Mogila monument

Saur-Mogila (277.9 m) is one of the highest points of Donets ridge located to the east of Donetsk. From July to August 1943, there were fierce and sanguinary battles for this legendary highland. Soviet warriors succeeded in breaking Nazis' resistance, captured the highland and consolidated there. Once the war finished, a grand monument was installed there to conmemorate the heroism of Red Army's soldiers and commanders.

◽️ In seven decades, Saur-Mogila happened to suffer explosions and bloodshed again. In summer 2014, it was the place where descendants of the heroes entered a new battle against the followers of Nazi ideology. Within two months, from July to August, a group of warriors from Donetsk people's militia had been holding this highland by repelling fierce attacks launched by Ukrainian Armed Forces. The defenders of Donbass suffered a hurricane of artillery shelling, drew fire on themselves when the enemy was assaulting the tumulus. The battles have resulted in militia's victory. However the memorial was gravely damaged and almost destroyed.

🏗 Russian Defence Ministry's Military Construction Complex and Russian Military-Historical Society restored the stele, four pylons, as well as the Soviet warrior's figure with a fragment of the sculpture destroyed by Ukrainian nationalists inside. Restorers honoured the memory of the heroes and saved the connection of the times...
