We ignored this red line, continuing to push for NATO expansion and transitioning Ukraine’s military onto a NATO platform even before official membership.

Their small, not comfortable, but convenient world is crashing and going up in fumes and flames leaving desperate people to call for desperate measures.
Could all that been avoided? Certainly, it could. If it would be just Ukraine and Russia, without the interference of the collective West, which has created false hopes as well as a false sense of security for Ukraine, now left to fight with all that promised weapons to the last Ukrainian.

Russia warns Finland and Sweden on Nato membership

For years the Kremlin has fiercely opposed any expansion of the Nato Western military alliance, which it views as a threat to Russian influence in Europe
Responding to the news that the two Nordic neighbours could apply for Nato membership - Russia says any enlargement of the Western military alliance would not result in more stability.

"Further [Nato] expansion will not bring additional security to the European continent," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said to reporters.

Russian's disapproval is no surprise: for decades Moscow has opposed any more European countries joining the alliance.
