EU energy ministers deliberated over a draft European law that would require member states to cut demand for natural gas by 15% from August through March. This would entail voluntary steps to reduce gas consumption and, if they yield insufficient savings, a trigger to impose mandatory moves across the 27-nation bloc.

Beijing Lashes Out At UK PM Candidates’ China Rhetoric

After Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak ramped up warnings of China’s threat to western security in their live TV debates, Beijing warned them both to cut the antagonistic angle.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spox Zhao Lijian hit out at their “irresponsible remarks,” in particular “hyping up the so-called China threat,” on Monday.

China’s Global Times quoted analysts Tuesday who suggested Britain would “definitely suffer more” if it allowed ties to deteriorate.

Sunak had promised he would set up a NATO-style group to combat Chinese cyber threats, while Truss insisted Britain must crack down on tech exports to “authoritarian regimes.”

Johnson Invokes Churchill Spirit in Zelensky Award Ceremony

UK PM Boris Johnson told Vladimir Zelensky that “Churchill would have cheered and probably wept too” at the Ukrainian President’s leadership in a videolink ceremony Tuesday.

Johnson added that he could imagine the spirit of Britain’s wartime leader “walking with you” and jabbing the way ahead with his walking stick” as he awarded Zelensky the Sir Winston Churchill Leadership Award.

The mutual backslapping continued as Zelensky claimed the award was Johnson’s as well for showing continued support.

RIA Novosti: Exchange prices for gas in Europe are already above $2,100 (+14% per day).

Western "experts" see it as Putin's revenge for sanctions. However, the sanctions themselves are the real reason for the price hike.

Steve Sweeney has reported from hot spots around the world, exposing Imperialist war crimes and attempts to interfere in and destabilize sovereign nations.

He is Morning Star International Editor, founder of Media Workers for Palestine, and reports on global liberation movements, press freedom & resistance.

Steve contacted me the other day to ask for a statement on Reporters Without Borders' (RSF) recent appeal to censor Russian media, on their premise that Russian media is "inciting hatred" and "condoning war crimes."

He also contacted RSF with an excellent list of questions including why a (supposed) press freedom group is demanding that alternative media narratives are censored, could they give concrete examples regarding what they've accused Russian media of doing (no), and whether RSF would comment on journalists like me being put on Ukraine's kill list because of my reporting from on the ground in Donbass, where I've just returned incidentally.

After a series of insightful exchanges, I asked Steve to please have a conversation with me about all of this. What a conversation it was! In our conversation, he details how RSF panicked and stalled replying, only to essentially give lengthy non-answers and flat out refuse to address some questions (including the one about me and Ukraine's kill list).

A spoiler: Steve notes that RSF is not the neutral body it pretends to be, instead receiving obscene amounts of money from NED, Soros' Open Society, USAID, the Ford Foundation...a "rogue's gallery of the worst kind of regime change organizations."

As RSF endeavours to shut down Russian media, I joined my Russian colleagues today in going to sites that were bombed by Ukraine yesterday in Gorlovka, killing one civilian & leaving two others in critical condition. This is the sort of crimes Ukraine has been perpetrating for over eight years, and its courageous journalists like my colleagues who have been putting their lives on the line to expose Ukraine's genocide of the Donbass people. RSF by whitewashing Ukraine's crimes is abetting in genocide.

Russia will focus on creating a Russian Orbital Service Station (ROSS) as its top priority in manned cosmonautics, Roscosmos Chief Yury Borisov said at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday.

"We will continue the piloted program in compliance with the plans approved. The main focus will be on creating a Russian orbital station," Borisov said, stressing that Roscosmos would also pay attention to scientific space research.

Then-Deputy Prime Minister Borisov announced in April 2021 that the condition of the International Space Station (ISS) left much to be desired and Russia might focus on creating its own orbital outpost. Russia’s Energia Space Rocket Corporation was assigned the task of making the first basic module for a new Russian orbital station ready in 2025. The new module will be based on a research and power unit that was previously intended for launch to the International Space Station in 2024.

"The Council today decided to prolong by six months, until 31 January 2023, the restrictive measures targeting specific sectors of the economy of the Russian Federation.

These sanctions, first introduced in 2014 in response to Russia's actions destabilising the situation in Ukraine, were significantly expanded since February 2022,.."

Russian corporation Rostec will show its advanced unmanned aerial vehicles in August at the Army-2022 International Military-Technical Forum.

The state corporation has published a video demonstrating the capabilities of UAVs produced by its enterprises. The footage shows a BAS-200 drone with a Russian Post container, ZALA Crimea, Lancet, 421-16e and 421-16e5v2 complexes.

The only question remains: how many of them are capable of military service and how soon they will be transferred to the army.

China and the United States are building up their military strength around the Taiwan Strait as tensions rise over US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s possible visit to the island.

The American aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan and its strike group, including a guided missile destroyer and a guided missile cruiser, set out from Singapore on Monday heading northeast towards the South China Sea, according to ship-tracking information provided by Beijing-based think tank the South China Sea Strategic Probing Initiative.

The US military has not disclosed its final destination, but the route would bring the carrier group to the Taiwan Strait if it continues in the same direction. Meanwhile, China is also building up its aerial strength in the region.
