Russia - India - Iran cooperation and trade are growing

The St. Petersburg-Mumbai intermodal train was the first of its kind since it introduced Iran transport to the multimodal route via the Caspian Sea. It was the first intermodal shipment from Russia to India, strengthening Iran’s transport and transit role.

When welcoming the train, Iran’s First Vice President Mohammad Mokhber mentioned that his country is looking forward to developing more such services and embracing the INSTC route, which can redefine its position on international transport maps. In a comment to Iranian media, he stressed that Iran is already taking crucial steps to facilitate such developments. “The transit capacity of the country has increased to 20 million tons, and by planning and taking appropriate measures, transiting 300 million tons of commodities per year can be reached,” he said.

BEIJING—Chinese exports to Russia of microchips and other electronic components and raw materials, some with military applications, have increased since Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine, complicating efforts by the U.S. and Western allies to isolate the country’s economy and cripple its military.

Chip shipments from China to Russia more than doubled to about $50 million in the first five months of 2022 compared with a year earlier, Chinese customs data show, while exports of other components such as printed circuits had double-digit percentage growth. Export volumes of aluminium oxide, which is used to make the metal aluminium, an important material in weapons production and aerospace, are 400 times higher than last year.

Wrong prediction
The "China collapse theory" is a typical example of wrong Western predictions about China, and there are quite a number of Western scholars who used to or still hold these opinions. A representative prediction of such kind was made by Francis Fukuyama in 2012: China's top-down political system, under pressure from a growing middle class empowered by wealth and social networks, is likely to blow up at some point.

Fukuyama told media that "China has always been a country with a big information problem where the emperor cannot figure out what is going on at a grassroots level" […] and "this is in so many respects exactly the Communist Party's problem. Because they do not have a free media, they do not have local elections, they cannot really judge what their people are thinking."

Fukuyama is not alone in this regard. There were some other "famous" Western proponent of the hilarious theory that used their biased knowledge to predict China's course in the past 10 years, such as when former US secretary of state Hillary Clinton said in 2011 that the "Chinese system is doomed." In an interview with the Atlantic, Clinton said Beijing's human rights record is "deplorable" and it is "trying to stop history" by opposing the advance of democracy.

Gordon Chang, a "well-known" "China Collapse" theory fanatic, has frequently prognosticated on "China's collapse," but despite all indications to the contrary, he just kept changing the time of the "collapse" again and again.

Arsen Popov, a 15-year-old resident of Mariupol, was awarded one of them.
