Tech firms will be required to shield internet users from state-sponsored disinformation posing a threat to UK society and democracy, under changes to a landmark online safety bill.
The legislation will require social media platforms, video streaming services and search engines to take action to minimise people’s exposure to foreign state-backed disinformation aimed at interfering with the UK. Such content would, for instance, include incidents such as the video of Ben Wallace being prank-called earlier this year by Russian hoaxers pretending to be the Ukrainian prime minister.
The culture secretary, Nadine Dorries, said the Ukraine invasion had underlined Russia’s willingness to use social media to spread lies and disinformation.
“We cannot allow foreign states or their puppets to use the internet to conduct hostile online warfare unimpeded,” she said. “That’s why we are strengthening our new internet safety protections to make sure social media firms identify and root out state-backed disinformation.”

That looks like NATO ammunition with remote radio fuse. People of Donbas will remember that also.

He adds: "I believe these standards are worth fighting for and that is why I am resigning".
Sunak says "our country is facing immense challenges".
"I publicly believe the public are ready to hear that truth. Our people know that if something is too good to be true then it's not true. They need to know that whilst there is a path to a better future, it is not an easy one.
"In preparation for our proposed joint speech on the economy next week, it has become clear to me that our approaches are fundamentally too different."
"I am sad to be leaving government but I have reluctantly come to the conclusion that we cannot continue like this", he adds.

Health Secretary Sajid Javid has just resigned from his role, saying he has "lost confidence" in Boris Johnson.

He starts saying: "It was a privilege to have been asked to come back into government to serve as Secretary of State for Health & Social Care at such a critical time for our country."
But, he adds: "We [Conservative party] may not have always been popular, but we have been competent in acting in the national interest. Sadly, in the current circumstances, the public are concluding that we are now neither.
"The vote of confidence last month showed that a large number of our colleagues agree.
"I regret to say, however, that it is clear to me that this situation will not change under your leadership and you have therefore lost my confidence too."

"Uralvagonzavod" - the main manufacturer of Russian advanced heavy weapon systems has signed agreements with enterprises and research institutions in Donbass about investments and partial localisation of manufacturing.
Uralvagonzavod will work with metallurgical enterprises of Donbass.
The Russian company has signed a cooperation agreement with YUGMK, which manages seven metallurgical enterprises in the DPR and LPR.
According to the head of YUGMK, the agreement will be an important step in building long-term relations between Russian business and the developing industry of Donbass.
