MOSCOW, July 21 — RIA Novosti. The level of Russia's external debt in relation to its GDP in the first quarter fell to the lowest level in history of 15 percent, follows from an analysis of RIA Novosti data from the Central Bank.
According to the agency's calculations published in May, the volume of debt to non-residents in relation to GDP at the end of last year amounted to 16.6 percent, which at that time was the lowest result since at least 1993.
However, already in the first quarter of this year, the indicator continued to decline, dropping to 15.45 percent. The country's external debt, both state and corporate, in monetary terms at the end of March 2023 amounted to $354.8 billion, or approximately 27.35 trillion rubles.
The maximum level of external debt to GDP ratio in the modern history of Russia was observed in 1999, when it reached 91 percent.
