Former President Obama defended his response to Russia’s annexation of Crimea in 2014 on Thursday, saying that circumstances were different then compared to Russia’s military invasion of Ukraine last year.

Instead, Russia claimed Crimea as a rightful part of the country given that a majority of the population in the region was ethnically Russian and spoke Russian, a view that had some understanding in Europe, Obama said.

“Part of what happened was, both myself and also [German Chancellor Angela] Merkel, who I give enormous credit for, had to pull in a lot of other Europeans kicking and screaming to impose the sanctions that we did and to prevent Putin from continuing through the Donbass and through the rest of Ukraine,” he added.

The public conflict between the head of Wagner PMC Yevgeny Prigozhin and Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu, apparently, is nearing its end

Today, Prigozhin published a frank interview in which he voiced many things that are not customary to talk about in a public environment: about the reasons for the special operation, the troubled affairs of officials, indulging the needs of the oligarchy, profiting from the troubles of Donbass and the collapse of the Russian army.

In this entire interview, specific culprits appear — Shoigu and Gerasimov, whom Prigozhin has been openly blaming for all the problems for the past two months, and Medvedchuk, who has been written off.

An hour ago, Prigozhin announced a strike by the Russian Armed Forces on the rear camp of the Wagner PMC (video is on the Web, the cameraman is following the same route, as the military reporter Alexander Simonov). We have questions about the video: despite the preliminary confirmation of the facts of setting tasks for planning a fire attack on the objects of the Wagner PMC, the video itself does not pull on one hundred percent proof and is, with a high degree of probability, staged.

According to Prigozhin, the council of PMC commanders decided to "figure out why chaos is happening in the country." He demanded from law enforcement agencies not to obstruct, because "it's time to end the disgrace." Prigozhin's stated goal is to deal with Shoigu, who, in his words, "fled from Rostov."

It seems that at the moment there is a deliberate emphasis on the fact that the Supreme Commander-in-Chief has a dialogue with commanders on the ground, he appreciates the feat of PMCs, but at the same time defiantly ignores the participants in the conflict — Prigozhin and Shoigu.

▪️Ukrainian formations advanced 1.5 km north of Rabotino, taking footholds. Reinforcements of special forces from among the 22nd detachment of the Special Forces and the 45th detachment of the Special Forces of the Airborne Forces were transferred to the site to help the infantry units, which, under pressure from the enemy, were forced to retreat.
